    L96 swap in 2014 L83 Silverado Truck

    After 270,000 miles (with 80,000 miles being cam swapped and supercharged) my L83 in my 2014 Silverado died. Looks like a broken ring land on cylinder 6.

    I am seriously considering going backwards here and swapping an L96 into this truck. My plan would be to source the E78 computer that will hopefully be compatible with my 6L80 transmission and the reminder of the other modules in the truck. Has anyone done this? Please don?t bother to reply and tell me why it won?t work or that you think this is a dumb idea. I have my own reasons.

    Any experience from someone who has actually done this swap is GREATLY appreciated. What were the biggest hurdles? What did you run into that you didn?t expect?

    Will gauges work? It?s all canbus right?

    What accelerator pedal?

    Will the in-tank pump supply the L96 port injection?

    Do I need to source or swap a fuel system control module from a donor L96 vehicle?

    ?It?s all canbus?? This doesn?t mean anything when it comes to modules actually talking to each other.

    Nothing will work if you do that. You'd have to convert the truck back to a E38 or E78 controller and then nothing else will work. No more ABS, no more traction control, no dash and no hvac either. Literally nothing is the same between a GMT-900 and K2XX trucks when it comes to electronics.

    Would be easier to make your truck a roller chassis and go with a Holley system than it would be to try and go backwards with a L96 engine and electronics.

    That's not true.
    For example 1GC1KWEG0FF127117 - stock K2XX Silverado 6.0 L96 with E78

    Gen4 and Gen5 has almost identical High-Speed GMLAN. Global A 2014 Camaro with LS3 uses E38 with the same OS #12656198 as GMT900 Escalade.
    Low-Speed GMLAN is completely different.

    That VIN is for a 2500 truck, still a lot different than a E92 truck that is in a 1500 truck.

    @Verlon I was thinking about the Express and Savannah vans but the 2500 is a much better example. I do expect that there is an E78 out there with a compatible OS. I hope someone here can weigh in and confirm with 100%.

    Does not matter. They use the same modules on High-Speed GMLAN - BCM, EBTCM, TCCM. Even theft deterrent system will work properly (if ECM will be programmed with right Security Code).

    This guy better have access to the right GM Tools and Software if he wants to attempt to flash stuff and make it work and hope everything is compatible.

    Buying another L83 sounds like way less headache and you know for sure everything will jive if you do that.
