Internet Necessary to Write EVERY Time?

Why on earth can I not write the calibration to my car without a live internet connection? I thought the interface stored the licenses for the controllers. When I used to program with the old interface, I almost never had an internet connection. This is a major PITA when living in, you know, a neighborhood and wanting to test some things. It literally takes 5 times as long as if I could just flash it out on some back road.

    What vehicle?

On the GM stuff that I do, I only need an internet connection when I read and license the file for the first time, not when I flash it on the street. But I don't do anything newer than 2018.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

2016 Veloster. I know I have programmed all of the other 2003-2012 GM PCMs away from a connection. It's infuriating because it needlessly adds so much time to my test loop.

Mine needs to "check" too. Super annoying. If I'm away from home I use my phone as a hotspot so I can beg to load my tune.
It's always made me wonder what'll happen if HP servers go down, like that Cloudstrike thing, or power loss etc. I'd be dead in the water...

Well, reading through some old posts, I found the original support thread that clearly says internet is required for this controller:

Indeed, it's going to suck if we ever get RedBox'd on these

Edit: guess I need to remain thankful that I even have he ability to tune this car on my own, even it means first world minor inconveniences, lol

i help a buddy tune his 18 c7 z06 and it needs internet every single write/flash. fortunately his c7 has the added feature of a hotspot, otherwise, it'd get annoying trying to have my laptop connect to some nearby internet wireless router.
