    electric fan clutch on P59?

Having issues with clutch fans. Either not loaded engine running at 183 or loaded at 26,000lbs and running at 210 with rear axle at 230. would like to install the electric clutch fan that they use in the trailblazers on my P59 in my Expresss 3500. I've seen that the P59 seems to only have the 2 fan option but there seems to be a pwn drop down. Has anyone tried this successfully?

Those EV PWM fan clutches are notoriously terrible.. Just a FYI.

I sell a ton of electric fan kits because how often they fail in trailblazers.

This. We has a 02 Trailblazer with the 4.2L and that fan was one of the worst things about the whole vehicle.

Those fan clutches had the second most Engineering software corrections of any GM vehicle I have worked on. Only surpassed by Dmax's.

So what do you suggest? I need something that is adjustable. Prefer something that i can either control from the P59 of a controller on the dash. They used these even on the Kodiak trucks but those were bigger clutches on the 8.1 engines.

What do you suggest for towing? Fully loaded at 12 tons i need more cooling than electric fans will likely offer. I was also thinking about the bigger clutch they use on the Kodiaks with the 8.1.

Both I was delivering a box truck 2 days ago, sat about an hour with ac running while unloading truck and waiting on a check. IAC was 207, engine 240 and trans 232.. That rarely happens. Usually just have an issue at full throttle on interstate running 77 mph pulling my 5,000lb 40 foot trailer with 8,500 lb box truck, bus, or motorhome on trailer. Usually i get 5mpg towing these trucks.

Sounds like you might need more radiator than you need more air movement. Plus, an additional/larger trans cooler

im using the 8.1 radiator that is twice as thick as the radiator for the 6.0. when i start having issues i replace the fan clutch and problems go away. unfortunately, im able to replace the fan clutch in 10 minutes now because i replace so often.

Did you ensure that the air coming through the grill can't bypass the radiator?

Im picky on cooling so i often clean the trans cooler, ac condenser and whenever i remove the shroud to replace the fan clutch i also inspect the front of radiator. Advance auto parts fan clutch is either engaged causing lots of noise and choking the engine of power or doing nothing at all. Oreily auto parts fan clutch was slow to kick on but once it did it also choked the engine. Autozone seems better, most of the time does just what i need, gives good power, good cooling, and not as noisy. but when it comes to the 98 degree temps in florida while im towing almost to the limit it struggles. Both Oreillys and Advance auto parts clutches took so much power that at times i couldn't get over 65 mph nor pass up a gas station. Autozone clutch allows me to maintain 75-80 mph loaded and get 5.5 mpg. the only option i was thinking is a pwm electric clutch that i can control with the P59 or an aftermarket fan controller that i mount to my dash. last option is to swap the 6.0 for an 8.1. but in theory i will still have the same issue if the fan clutch is wasteful then it will be noisy and even worse on fuel economy.

How about a standard 2500 truck fan with a aux blower fan on the condenser? Have you tried changing the waterpump or thermostat? May need to run some flush through the engine passages.

Im not a fan of lower temp thermostats but a 160 should get rid of 10-15* and have the clutch fan coming on earlier and with less lockup. If the heating is going on at lower speeds the aux fan on condenser should be a nice upgrade.

May want to go with an nice high flow pusher fan in front of the condenser with a temp switch/sensor that goes in the upper hose or TStat housing.

Thats what i was thinking. It seems like the 1500 fan shrouds are much smaller to match the smaller radiator. Would the 1500 and 2500 have different fans to bolt onto the same clutch? I still think a blower fan on the condensor would be a good idea, probably a standard toggle switch to a relay would be fine and only use it at lower speeds or high loads.
