    2011 F150 M57 6R80 Updates

    Good morning fellow calibrators thought I would post up some updates on the M57 truck one of my customers has. The vehicle started it's life as a 3.5 Eco Boost truck with 3:55 gears and 6R80 transmission. Joe decided he wanted to go down the rabbit hole and get a BMW M57TU motor installed when his Eco Boost engine failed. He ran the truck with a BMW stand alone ECU with a manual transmission for a while and it worked great. But over time he decide to try the original 6R he had on hand just lying around the challenge here was to get everything to work and function as it it came this way would be a huge feat. He started with milling his own adapter plate seeing as no current company made a adapter he could use. The 3.5 Eco boost engine is based on the Duratec platform similar to the ford 3.7L engine. Once he got the stock converter and transmission mounted came the hard part making it shift and drive. He attempted some changes with no luck and no RPM signal. After a while he reached out to me and I had him send over his stock file for evaluation. We tried a few things and before we knew it we got the RPM signal to populate the stock PCM. after that it was on making the file act ad operate from a gas/DI platform to a DSL/DI platform. After a few days I had the vehicle shifting and driving around the streets of Canada. From there he would load some file drive around and send me log files to evaluate. After hundreds of hrs of testing and logging data I have him in a good place but there is always better in my eyes one of my compulsions. The truck has been on the road since late December and with no issues thus far here is a current log of the truck and I'm working with him this week to put some final touches on the file to get it a smoother feel vs a just driving shifting feel. These Ford PCM's being torque based are extremely affected by any model changes and the trans uses this data to complete shifts with specific pressures and firmness as well as how to apply the TCC.     I have quite a bit of experience with the 6R80 platform in both its V8 and V6 configuration I personally think its a outstanding stock trannsmission and has all the great features that make it something that can last weather its in a 250 hp vehicle or a 650 HP FI configuration.

    Just wanted to add couple more logs to to the M57 / 6R80 forum post we have had really good luck with this combo ad no failures I do believe the stock 3.5 EB torque converter is a little loose for the M57 engine combo but that's a easy fix. It would be better to use a factory 6.2L or 5.4L since stall speeds are a little lower. Every now and again I see in the logs in 2d gear it will slip more than commanded then re-engage might just be the converter is worn not sure how many miles the original unit had when it was installed but other than that I will play with the calibration some more and see if I can get it to hold better. Been working with Joe to get the combo to feel as close to a stock vehicle as possible.

    Here is another set of logs, the truck is doing great owner is driving it daily pulling his enclosed trailer and having a blast. I work closely with him optimizing the 6R80 to achieve a near perfect balance for the BMW twin turbo DSL engine.

    Attached are some logs from the truck its a monster for having a little 3.0 Diesel engine. The builder would be more than happy to share some info he has a youtube video of the engine set up if anyone is interested I just handle tuning the FORD PCM for the engine / transmission operation.

    It moves for a crew cab 4x4 that much is certain its come along way since I started working on it last December nno one was even sure it could be done but Joe got it done that's for sure. Originally he was running a manual transmission but it gets old shifting in a luxury truck like that.

    Attached are some pics of Joes build I know for a fact he is the first to get it to operate using his OEM eco boost TC1797 PCM and a standalone BMW controller its very cool how it all came together. If anyone Is interested i buying a 6R80 Adapter plate he can build you one just let me know and Ill get him in contact with you.

    this are the projects i like,, did this on a mustang saleen 32v i have, installed 6r80 and wired in gen 1 coyote pcm.. i was close to get it nice but never finished it, paid for help with no luck, some guys on the forum helped buy car has an issue wasnt able to fix.

    Joes truck has been great I think we are at the end of the long term testing he pulled his old 6R80 out and inspected the transmission. He was surprised to find no abnormal ware on the clutch packs we had a little bluing on a few clutch packs but the transmission was used to start with. No broken internal parts which is always a win. This project was started about a year ago and we have been working on it off and on testing since. The torque model and transmission shift points are right about where he likes them. I did this truck 100% remotely and in the beginning he was a little skeptical we could get it to function properly. I can say this he drives the truck daily, pulls trailers, and has quite a few WOT pulls the truck has been absolutely fantastic. If anyone else has any other weird project guys don't want to mess with just let me know I can get you set up and we can get you on the right path to success.
