Damaged ECU swap E78 cruze
I have looked around and it seems if i get a used ECU (matching part no.) I will have to buy 2 credits just do due a VIN change. Is that correct? Is there an easier way to go about this? As the credits I do have are for my current VIN and OS, so if I license another for an ECU/VIN replacement ill have 2 credits stuck to that VIN not being used anymore
Reason for getting a used/refurbished that isn't VIN tuned is the cost variation, even if I do have buy credits for the vin swap its much cheaper. I wouldn't be opposed to buy the credits if there was a way to re-use them for a different vehicle in the future, not stuck to a trashed VIN.
I do own up and say that my mistake is what ruined it, in short I had the key off when trying to write a tune and in a panicked series of events I turned the key on while it said "erasing" and the VCM editor froze for several minutes and i turned the car on and on again. Now cannot read or write ECM, no start situation. Lesson learned doing stupid things. TCM is fine thankfully

I think on these you will likely need to get it programmed outside of HP Tuners to your VIN. That's at least the more sure way of getting it to work. Available on ebay at not much more than the cost of 2 credits.
Have you disconnected the battery for a while?

im going to disconnect and do the "global reset", then let it sit overnight. Did a quick 5 minute disconnect earlier and nothing changed. i bought an exact match ECU used ecu from eBay, even if i dont use it, it will be nice to have as an extra after. if i have to buy credits to waste it will still be the cheapest option.
