Need to connect to internet to open/ edit tune file?

So the other day, I read a 2017 Nissan Titan and saved the file. Then the next day I went to read another car and when I opened up VCM Editor, It tried to load the last tune file as it always does, but this time it came up with a dialog attempting to contact HPTuners server. Because I was offline, the communication failed and the software basically told me that I couldn't edit the file unless I was connected to HPTuners. What is the deal with this? I was able to read and write an 2008 F-150 the next day with no internet access, so why does the Nissan require an internet connection to mess with the file and the Ford doesn't?

My 2018 Silverado required the same connection and watched a TY video that explained it. Not sure if it's the same with Nissan.
