HP Academy is about the best you will get and you can use google to research how a diesel works, the combustion cycle, how elements affect it like pilot, temperature and stuff. Bunch of research papers online from studies. After that it’s trial and error self teaching.

I learned everything I know about tuning diesels from this forum and using trial and error. Hp Academy didn't help me one bit.

You could take the tunes you find here and make templates of them. Take a lot of notes and you can apply those changes to your file piece by piece.

Ideally you would figure out how to make histograms and graphs to do some analysis and make one change at a time. But that takes time to grasp.. At least it did for me. Just make one change and drive it for a spell, it takes time to understand what does what.

This is all finally starting to make sense, it's literally been 3yrs of confusion.

I started doing just this, i was hoping there may be some book out there with some good entry level reading and information to build on. But all good, like you said this way works it just takes a while.

No there is no book out there, it’s a dive in and figure it out deal. No hp academy won’t tell you exactly how to tune but it shows you basic concepts and theories that do apply to tuning

One of the most time consuming things that could be written down to assist with learning, is an index or dictionary of what each parameter/ table/ ect. changes what aspect, and how it interacts with data.

The HP provided ones can/are vague.
