A few questions about Mustang gt 10 speed trans.

The trans/car with 13000kms on it (I bought used from dealer) I believe overall works/operates as it should I think.
It's been into the dealer and the fluid level checked and they did a reflash and their trans guy drove the car during the initial relearn so likely as good as it can be.

The reason I had the dealer look into it was that I felt with as gentle and smooth as it is in "D" the difference in "S" seemed like the shifts were too harsh with the shifter back in sport "S" position.

After all the reflash and what not it is still the same good and smooth in "D" but although a bit better in "S" but still a bit harsher than ideal.

So question is could the S position be made a ways less angry to be only a bit more aggressive than D or could D be adjusted to be a bit more sporty feeling with a little less throttle required to downshift a gear or 2 and perhaps not skip 2nd gear from a stop.

The best combo I've found is shifter in sport and cluster in S+.
Makes for gentler shifts and more responsive to downshirts.

Wondering is its worth it to go down the road and get HP interface?

Sorry for the long post but I'd like to know a bit more about the trans.
    Thx,
    D

    Simpler question:
Can the "S" position on the shifter be taylored to be a bit softer shift wise?
Can the skip of 2nd gear be removed so all gears are used when in "D"

Or is this trans way more complicated than this?

Is there a book or somewhere I should be fishing other than here for help?

    Thx,
    D

Ford uses 3 shift "characters" that basically defines the shift firmness. In the Mustang, character 0 is in general the softest shifts, 1 is more aggressive, and 2 is most aggressive and used in drag mode. It is very easy to change which character is assigned to which shift mode. If you want base D firmness in S mode, then all you have to do is change a 1 to a 0 in the table that assigns characters to drive modes. However, if D mode is too soft for you and you want something in between, then it won't be so easy.

Yes, this is very easily done in the shift schedules.

It can be. Most stick to the basics of manipulating when character is assigned, "roll-race" modes, shift schedule changes, and torque modulation changes though.

For the engine, there are some marginally ok resources. I haven't seen anything published for the transmission out there.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

    This is good to know,

Mike are you a hobbyist that likes to help others or a pro calibrator that makes a living tuning?

For the simple changes like mentioned, you could just post the file here and I can make changes to it.

Allright, my knowledge is limited on this but I think:

I buy hp tuner mpvi3 interface and 4 credits.
Install hp tuner software on a win 10 laptop.
Plug interface and laptop into obd2 port.
download copy of current tune, save on laptop incase I need it later.
Post here for you to adjust.
You adjust then I flash to car.

    This sound about right?

Unless this has changed, you would both have to license the file you are working on to your own MPVI device.

    One person saving changes.
One person flashing into the car.

OR you would have to had purchased an unlimited license for 12 credits/ be part of the TDN remote tuning.

The other option would be to remote into his computer with team viewer or GoTo resolve and make all the changes using his login, MPVI, credits.

@murfie that must be a new-ish “feature” that came with the mvpi3. I’m 100% certain I’ve been able to modify other people’ files in the past without licensing them myself.

It used to be MPVI1 thing where you had to license to save. Since MPVI2 this is no longer the case. They left the old description.

If I am following the progression of this thread correctly nothing has changed from my thought of:

Install hp tuner software on a win 10 laptop.
Plug interface and laptop into obd2 port.
download copy of current tune, save on laptop incase I need it later.

Dtrue2 even if I can’t save the file you can post snips of the tables and we can guide what changes to make.

I've been reading threads on the forum and have been thinking a cheaper and perhaps effective enough way to deal with the issues might be to try an adaptive table clear and then stop/turn off adaptive learning.

But an unopened new in box (no warrenty) mpvi2+ has shown up on marketplace also for $250.

The deal breaker difference between mpvi2+ and mpvi3 are what in my application?

What I mean is, would the mpvi2+ be all I need?
    Thx,
    D

Dtrue2, you complained about skip shift and shift firmness as a function of drive mode. The typical and "correct" way to address these is using the shift maps and the character assignments. Disabling adaptives is a bit of a band-aid and forces operation outside of how Ford intended. That's not the preferred solution. And you mentioned "cheaper", but the cost is the same either way.

True, using hp tuner is the right way, but would cost $550 for mpvi3 interface plus $140 for 2 credits for trans licenseing.

Forscan software is essentially free and obd2 interface would cost $35-$80.

Thought process on using forscan to clear tables and halt adaptive learning (as talked about a number of times on here and mustang6g forum) is that if what they say is true about it smoothing out all modes I could run trans in "S" or any other mode that didn't skip 2nd gear and all would be fine anyway if smoothness was good enough.

Also forscan will allow me to turn off the 2 honk when leaving car running with key in pocket.

Switch the cluster to mustang turbo ecoboost cluster mode to see boost guage.

And change turn signal tap from 3 to 4 flashes.
    Thx,
    D

Or just switch to PCMTec , and have way more control of the trans.

Hey Dan, thanks for the response.
I had a look into this and it seems like there would be a fair bit more options for ability to switch upto 4 or more tunes pretty much on the fly which might be cool.
My issue is pretty much trans only at this point but might be neat to have a more aggressive e-fuel tune but not sure I care about that at this point.
With 4 toggle switched drive modes plus the 2 different settings at shifter I think there's almost too many choices/settings now.
Also according to engineer mike there are 3 shift firmness settings for each mode also.......
Not sure if so many choices/settings will make it easier or harder to get it where I'll like it or make me get sell it and grab a standard next time.
Snow here now until April so I wait like a puppy in the window of a pet store.....
