    Question Credits question

Hello everyone, im new to tuning and have never tuned a vehicle of mine before.

I have a few questions regarding the credit system.

Firstly, I have a l5p duramax and I plan on doing the full ECM swap. Now I understand I will need 8 credits to unlock the ECM, but what I was most curious about is if I read and write my stock ECM file onto the new unlocked ECM
and then choose to write a new performance ECM tune file later on, will I have to buy another 8 credits to write it? Are the Credits like a per write thing so you have to pay the 8 credits to write a new tune everytime you want a new tune?
I see everywhere that people say I need 8 credits to unlock the ECM and im good to go but I just wanted to make absolute sure before I pull the trigger on this new ECM.

Secondly, will shift on the fly allow me to select my stock ECM tune and my new performance tune?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

You really don't write a "performance tune". You will modify your existing tune as needed to make it a performance tune and write it (or re-write it several times as needed to fine tune it). And this shouldn't need any new credits.

And although I don't know about your specific ECM, generally there isn't the ability to run multiple tunes that can be shifted on the fly. This isn't a "bully dog tuner" which I think probably intercepts and changes ECM sensor readings and commands to trick it into doing different things. But there might be multiple maps that can be set differently to allow somewhat different driving modes.

oh ok, so even if I lets say get a completely new tune because the first one is terrible, i wont have to buy another 8 credits to write it to the ecm?

I also assume this is the same for the TCM with trans tuning?

You should NOT need to buy additional credits to write to your vehicles ECM over and above the initial credits to license the ECM.

You will be required to purchase the additional credits if you are trying to use the same file for the new ECM. The VIN will be the same but the serial number is different. I can help with the file if you'd like
