    07 Cobalt SS Gains.

    I recently picked up a stock 2007 cobalt ss for cheap. Has the SC LSJ. It had a blown motor so I'm swapping in a used stock one. I'm just wondering from the people who may have experience with them is it worth tuning? Did GM leave much power on the table in stock form?

    Side note. I have an Extra SC, manifold, injectors, fuel rail, tensioner, throttle body and probably some other stuff if anyone is interested lol.

    Why not put all that back on it and keep it s/c??

    Yes, GM left a lot on the table. The stock MAF and VE tables are not calibrated very well.
    These engines love timing. Depending on the engine and fuel you run, you can add quite a bit.
    The low end timing tables have a lot of room for drivability. There are a lot of QOL improvements that can make the car far more enjoyable to drive.

    Have you ever revved one to 8K RPM? According to the wiki page stage 3 revs out to 8k. I'm wondering how long one would live like that.

    7500rpm is max. The stage 3 is adjustable to 8k, assuming you are installing neutral balance shafts.
    Unless you are camming the motor, it's not worth it to push it that hard.

    Any idea what the part number of the stage3 ECM that GM would have installed is? No luck on google finding one so far.

    They never sold it as a standalone unit. It was only packaged with the S3 kit.
    The calibration number was different depending on your make and model.
    Be aware, if you do find one, it disables your AC. It was meant to be an off-road only kit.
