    2011 Lucerne 3900

So, my hardware is on the way for this car, and I'm looking forward to messing with it. I used to use a now defunct competitors' software for L67 power back in the day. I have some plans for this car, and I want to make it more efficient in every regard. The goal is to tune it for 89 octane as the "low octane" tune. The car, even on a factory tune, gets about 2mpg better on 89 than 87, and another 1mpg better on 91 than 89. I'm aiming to take advantage of this to pull more power out of it AND get better gas mileage on the highway...it's seen 26,000 miles this year.

I'm going to view the classes and such, and do the reading and such that needs to be. But, has anyone played with this engine in ANY platform that can share some insight on their progress and changes made...for better or worse? I've done data logs already, and know it can stand some more timing, especially with higher octane gas in it. I was able to make ~335HP and over 400ft lb torque with my L67 AND get it to return 36mpg on the highway in a W-Body. That was a lot of fun. I look forward to sharing my journey, and watching some of yours.

    Joe

Can you post the tune and a data log? I would like to add to my data base collection of OS for V6. Should be a E38.

Might be able to swap in a 4t80 and boost if you want to make some big power (I.E 400WHP plus stock engine)

ECM should be able to support up to 900 whp. (I.E injector fueling size limit is increased post 2009.5)

Injector flow data can support 30PSI of boost.

    Good luck.

Nice. I've kicked around the idea of swapping in the 4T80-E. What I wouldn't know how to do is get this PCM to control the V8 transmission with the V6 engine still in it. I've got a couple data logs from this morning, with some numbers that seem...weird. I have also considered the idea of turbocharging this one because turbo V6 Buicks ARE a thing. Time will tell just how far I take this.

A built 4T65e from triple edge performance would be my transmission of choice before swapping to a 4T80. If that is what that car uses for a transmission.

It is. Doing some work to that transmission this weekend. It's got a shift kit in it from Intense Racing, and has been pretty well maintained. Replacing the solenoids , doing a fluid & filter change, & replacing the pan for one with a drain plug. Dorman makes the piece for like $35. That was just too easy.

I'm going to attach two logs from today and ask a couple questions regarding the data. The first question is...throttle percentages. I noticed this in Torque Pro and that at idle, it reads 23%, and at WOT, it was like 86%. This is also throttle by wire, which I am NOT familiar with. I'm not entirely convinced that the TPS in this thing is offering erratic data. One log is about 10 minutes long, the other, close to 30 minutes. Also, I noticed that the ethanol content read different from one log to another. All I did was have breakfast at Waffle House. No fuel was added to the car. The longer log has the lower ethanol content number, and is the second one. I intend to make the low octane fuel spark table based off of 89 octane midgrade, and when I get around to it, I'll set the high octane for premium gas. I'll have the opportunity on Wednesday to do a TON of logging once the MPVI3 gets here. I'm using a RTD device to get these logs.

Without further ado, here are the logs from today.

You can post the logs normally using the advanced reply box, then click attachments. No need for google docs.

If this car is a virtual flex fuel car, just disable that feature as it's never really accurate. You can look at the flex fuel table and see if it says virtual or sensor fitted.

And yes, the standard TPS channel will show those values. The throttle blade is always open as there is no IAC and the max it reads will be 84-86%. There is a sticky thread on it somewhere. You can log the other throttle channels for the throttle body and throttle pedal, those will report more normal readings that you are used to.

Cool. That makes sense, then. The flex fuel table only has a "General" tab, with enabled or disabled. Are you advising to simply disable that? It doesn't say anything about virtual or not. Thanks for the input on attachments...I hadn't seen it, hence the Google Drive links. Thank you.

Without seeing the tune file, make sure it's in advanced view under the edit tab.

It is. I'll up the tune file here. Again, NO changes from factory are in this.

Looks to be a virtual flex fuel system I believe. The DTC's list shows that the 2 codes that are the low circuit and high circuit codes are already set to no error reported, so that would mean that no actual sensor is installed.

Add knock retard, burst knock and the injector information to your logs. You can remove the bank 2 sensor 2 channels as those aren't there on this car.

Very tunable computers which is nice. Changes to transmission shifting, power enrichment and timing can make them drive a lot better.

Yessir. That is the plan. I'm hoping to basically do similar things that I did with my L67 powered Cutlass Supreme. I'll add those tidbits to the logs, too. Thank you. I'm definitely going to have to experiment and remember some stuff. LOL...it's been a LONG time.
