New to me k5 Blazer with lq9 swap HELP

Fyi i'm completely new to tuning but want to learn. I just got a 84 Blazer with a lq9 swapped into it. The previous owner took it to multiple shops to have it tuned over the years but never got it running good. It runs and drives but will stall out randomly when driving at lower speeds (less than 15mph) or idle. Don't have a lot of info except what i was told. lq9 with a upgraded unknown cam, headers, drive by wire, th400, dakota digital gps interface supposedly connected for vss. currently there is a error code P0103. I've been reading a lot of the forums and trying to figure out if i need to start from scratch, make some adjustments or if it's a physical problem like wiring or sensors. I did replace the maf because of the error but it didn't fix anything. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's in speed density that's why it has a P0103 code. It's also in open loop and "rich"-er than stoich the entire time. It needs to be properly tuned. The VE is interesting for sure. Spark tables are pretty janky. Minimum timing is set to 18 degrees so it has very little idle timing control no matter what you set the over speed table to.

thank you for the info. Is there any reason they would of left it like this when he took it to have it tuned last? When you say properly tuned do you mean trying to find a local shop, a remote tuner or I can try myself? is it better to just take a stock tune and start over or to make changes to the current one?

when i first started, or even now when i meat people such as in your situation, i suggest going and getting a dyno tune done.
This way, you know your engine is safe, you can see the hp/tq it makes, and you have a real nice baseline set to learn from.

you can use the compare feature and see what was done/modified in the tune, and you can make adjustments, datalog street tune the rest of it.

right now youre guessing, and thats how parts get broken.

They left it that way because they don't know any better. Unfortunately there's no real qualifications to become a tuner. There are a few on here who don't know what they don't know.

There are a few of us on here who email tune. Myself, Alvin, Greg, Ben.

The 103 is because it is in speed density mode.

The tune is definitely pretty rough. Read about speed density tuning.. you'll want to get that VE table in order quick.

i'm going to try and find a local tuner and see what they can do. Not to hopeful because doesn't seem like that worked out for the previous owner. I'm going to try to get it running a little better until i find someone.

That's what worries me and so i'm going to try and work on it while i look for a local tuner. that's good to know when you do an email tune is that more of a starting point or closer to a final tune?

I started to read about it and the VE table doesn't look like any other of the tunes i compared it to so I guess that will be my starting point.
