    General Gen V & 6Lxx temprature question

Hey so i have a L83 and 6L80 in my 1973 ranchero, so no grill shutter control or alike.
I'm only reaching 90-95c (194f) driving including WOT, and Ive read that the engines needs to be at least 210-220f because of the DI and alike..
What are my options to raising the temp i have a large AL radiator? Its the factory thermostat that apparently starts opening at 90c.

Same "issue" with the trans, i have a separate trans cooler and no thermostat, my temps never go over 45c (113f), and Ive heard the trans needs to see 166 to go into normal mode.
Is this true and i need to add a thermostat to my cooler lines?
Or is the lower temps good for the health of the trans and its just a adjustment in the HPT?

    Warmer thermostat for the engine.

They make thermostats to put on trans coolers. I think the one that I have is by Derale.

That is plenty warm IMHO. I wouldn't worry about this.

I had a 2019 6.2 truck in that would dyno a extra 10-12hp starting the pull around 190-195 vs the 210-220 range.

Coolant temp is perfect, no changes needed in my eyes. The transmission temp is slightly low but par for the course if the temps are below 30-40 degrees F outside. In the summer I see about 145-165 for temps on the transmission, exactly where I want it to be.

GM sells a transmission thermostat that connected to the factory cooler lines, it opens at like 150-155 degrees. If you did aftermarket lines, then you'd have to use something else if you want to use a thermostat. Or because I am cheap and it's free, just put card board around the transmission cooler you have now and the temps will rise like 20-30 degrees.
2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

Derale thermostat that I have wasn't too expensive, but it does hold the temperature above 180 degrees. I don't remember them having any other opening temperature available.

Thats great info thanks, ive just heard that the DI engines needs 210 atleast to be efficient! and yea its around 40f outside so maybe normal for no thermostat.. ill try and see if i can elevate it with a piece of cardboard thanks!!

yea 100%! I was just reading some other posts where another had transmission issues under 160F trans temp (I do not) and got 2mpg more at 210f engine temp. But maybe not the case with mine as ive changed the "Desired engine temp" to 190.
