    Unlicensed vehicle error

I have the MPVI3 and I plugged it in to my car. I downloaded the file and the someone sent me a load file for a 2002 Z06 Corvette. I bought 2 credits and tried to write it to the car but it says ?unlicensed vehicle? but my 2 credits have been used and the file is not written to the car. This program is not that easy to use. Where did my money and credits go?

When I look under my devices it says 2 credits but I am trying to write a stock tune file that I downloaded from HP Tuners and it shows I have no credits when I try to write the file.

Never write some random file sent to you to your car and never write a stock file from HP Tuners to your car unless you understand what is going on.

When you read your car with HP Tuners, that file would need to be licensed if you want to edit anything on it. So it would cost 2 credits to do that. If you never licensed your car, then you can't do anything with it until you do. If you choose to write a different file into your computer, which you should never do, that would cost another 2 credits because that file isn't yours and you don't have a license for it without spending credits on it.

So in short, it would cost 4 credits to do what you apparently tired to do here. Other peoples tunes and or stock files should only be used for reference, like copying data over to your file. That way you don't spend more money and or turn your computer into a door stop if something is not compatible between files.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

Ok, so I downloaded my tune and saved it but did not do any modifications. I opened up the file sent to me and compared it to other tunes on the download section of HP Tuners and it looked good. I tried to write it to my car and bought 2 credits. It tried to write but then got the ERASE section and said ERASE: failed. Now it just keeps telling me "unlicensed vehicle." Didnt I already license that tune?

From what you are telling me, I should open my original tune from my car. then write my original tune back to my car and pay for the credits for it that way I own that tune for my PCM and then any mods that I do I can do to my original tune and just keep resaving the original tune with the new mods so I own it, correct?

From the first part that you wrote, it sounds like you licensed the other file given to you and not the tune file from your own vehicle. You can easily check that, click the blue information dot in the editor and it should show you want VIN's have the license, if it's different than the VIN of your own car then that is what happened.

Only make changes to your cars tune file and only write that file with changes back into your computer.

I am new to the NEW way tuners are doing things. I was told by a friend of mine that is helping me out. He said I have to register my device...which I did. But I need to send my credits to tuners, as I am only tuning my car. How do I send them my credits?

    Much appreciated!

You don't send credits to the tuners. You will use them yourself if you are the one actually writing the file into the vehicle.
