Special Thanks to Jim, Fummins and all the others!!!

I just wanted to give a big shout-out to users Fummins, JimP., and everyone else who has helped me along my tuning journey with my truck?s unique challenges. It seems like I?ve faced a lot of issues with how my truck runs at elevation, and much of it appears to be related to the injectors (not bad injectors, just sized or poorly calibrated?), a problem that a few tuners and I identified early on and we all seem to come back to as the root of my smoke problems.

I?ve received a lot of help from several users, but Jim and Fummins have gone above and beyond, spending considerable time working through tuning and log reviews to help me get things sorted out. From what I?ve gathered, Jim has been an invaluable asset to Fummins, helping him develop the tuning expertise he has today.

If any of you folks find yourselves in the middle of the Colorado Rockies, let me know! Id love to buy you a beer and nerd out on diesel stuff!!!

Thanks again and happy holidays all!

Noah, I'll be able to help you out soon on the tuning. Hope all is well.

I believe you are also 50HP (15% Over) Injectors on a similar sized turbo as me and I've had great success getting my truck clean and torquey.

Working now on fuel economy for cruise and towing by means of more timing. Pilot Timing is stockish as well, which may be a good point in improvement.

    Reach out any time.

Negative. The struggle continues. Still the low end smoke mess. Above 1k RPM starts clearing up. Eventually going to have to bite the bullet and get new sticks.

Thanks. I think you will still struggle with assisting me for this altitude. So many have tried to help and come up with no answers other than F@%k those injectors! Works decent low elevations, but not for shyte up here.

The injectors you're using in your truck... Are they the 50 HP BMS/Exergy injectors that you have listed in your signature?

Seems a bit crazy to me that a Bosch manufactured injector, that I presume has not even been modified by Exergy (correct me if I'm wrong - that aside, even if they do modify them, Exergy has a great reputation for quality injectors) would be such a poor performer.

I would aski if you have a mismatched nozzle angle for the pistons in your truck, but being you have a 04.5 truck (which is presumably also the piston style you have in your motor), and those pistons work fine with either nozzle angle, that seems like an unlikely cause of your troubles (for reference, I'm running 200% over 143* angle injectors in my 05 from S&S).

How smoky are we talking here? Have any videos of what you're dealing with you could share?

I'm not quite as high up in elevation as you are, but am sitting around 4500 ft in Utah.

The best way to explain it is I've seen one of your recent files and I know WHY it is having issues.

Initially when I took my truck up to Tahoe at 8000ft, mine of course with a loose boost coupler, I start figuring out finer details of what works and what doesn't.

The final tune for the engine was reached today and I was sub-1100F (unloaded WOT), 35psi, and clean out the tailpipe with what feels like 3x power over stock.

Your pilot mapping is happening at the wrong timing for optimization and the curve you use is turning it off right off of idle, missing out on the enhancement possible from that small initial burst of combustion pressure.

Your timing is nowhere near optimized for altitude. Overfueled pretty heavily. Pedal Mapping can use some help.

I'll make you a deal and we can talk about it over the phone. Let's get you sorted. [email protected]
