Hello all,
First time poster here, and I have a (hopefuly) quick question about how/if HP can be used to disable the Passlock system in a '97 Olds Achieva with a 3100 V6.
The problem: The car has been sitting for many years, and though it still seems to power on fine (fuel pump and lights ect.), it has long since lost its security memory and the VATS system will not disarm, even after trying the 10 minute key relearn procedure several times. The security light on the dash flashes four times, and I'm pretty sure that indicates no comms with the lock cylinder/Instrument Panel Cluster, which is probably why it was parked in the first place. I've seen several different physical workarounds for it so far, but the info varies wildly and most of them require the car to be running, so I would prefer to just disable it in the ECU if possible.
I saw that the 2.4L I4 version of the Achieva is supported by the software, but does this extend to the 3100 V6? Is it close enough to the system on say a Series II 3800 to still work? I saw one post on here mentioning the Achieva, but the information was sparse and I didn't want to resurrect a dead thread, so would someone be able to give me a quick rundown on if this is possible and how to do it?
I am by no means looking to do any real tuning, just looking to get it running as I'm considering it for 24Hrs of Lemons racing or some nonsense like that. Would also consider a physical disable if anyone has experience with this specific platform (Late 90s GM N-body: Achieva, Skylark, and Grand Am). I know this thing is a fossil by today's standards, but I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance for the help!
