    New to all this

Hi. I am new to all this sort of 'mechanics'. I live in UK but drive a 2003 Chevrolet silverado. After 330'000 good miles my transmission has decided not to play anymore. I have had it rebuilt and have been told that it now needs re tuning, is this the piece of equipment for the job and, Where do I start? I don't know what I need, whether its a stand alone unit or whether it needs a laptop or similar as well!!! I really know nothing. Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance for any replies.

If the transmission was built back to stock spec I see no reason why it would need tuning tbh.

Any good scan tool can reset the adaptive learning, that's all you need to do with a new transmission.
2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

Did the old 03 Silverado 4l60/4l80 even have adaptive learning?

Being a P59, probably not I guess. Doesn't have a separate TCM in those years.

The rebuild has changed the trans from a 4l60 to a 4l65. Also, I have read, that as the truck has bigger wheels and tyres than stock I should have had it reprogrammed previously.

Going to a 4L65 is really just a swapping a few parts inside the transmission, doesn't change how it operates.

If you went with larger tires, it's always a good idea to correct the speedo and change the shift points so it drives better with larger tires. There is a lot more stuff you can do with tuning for the engine and transmission if you really wanted to do that with HP Tuners.

Thank you for the replies. So, my initial question was, Is this the equipment that I need and, is it a stand alone unit or do I need a laptop or similar to 'read it'.

how does it drive having not been tuned?

what is it not doing that you would like it to do?

what is it doing that you would like it to cease doing?

When the original 4L60e was rebuilt it was changed to a 4L65e with all new electronic components etc and .supposedly. uprated parts. After only a few miles the lock up ceased working and I got really hard shifts 1-2. I read on a 4L60 forum of all manner of possible problems so am starting again but with a different kit as they are 'rubbish' although cost me in excess of ?3500. Also on the forum i have been told that I need to reprogramme shift points and, after mentioning the bigger wheels and tyres was told that I should have had it re tuned back then.

converter not locking could be caused be a few different things

if it was locking from the gate then quit it is highly unlikely that the issue is tune related

    good luck

Thanks again. Yes I understand that from the other forum that I'm a member. What is your experience with these transmissions and could you give your opinion please.
