Engine Oil Hot on dash? Causes?

Calculated Oil Temp never reports hot, but I see two other values flip between -40 and numbers in the 2teens, and other 302 to numbers in the 2teens

Does what you are working on have an actual oil temp sensor?

Your posted hpt has EOT sensor enabled. See [ECM] 312.

if it is a G8 then Aus based all our LS in that series had an actual oil temp sensor, the low oil level sensor in sump is a 3 wire and has a oil temp built into it

Do you know if the gauge is a direct read of the sensor or if the ECM still does some additional calculations to get the displayed temps? There has been a lot of discussion on the Camaro5 forum on this through the years.

if it was a HSV with the triple gauges (oil press, oil temp, volts) then its reading the sensor, im pretty sure if it was the atari gauges (digital style) it is still sensor for the oil temp, there is also the setting for the sensor and mine is set to ''ecm cal and sensor'' mine is same as G8 but HSV GTS, but i know its all sensor as if i unplug it i get default min reading, and ive changed the oil when it was 100c deg i dumped it out and then refilled and checked oil temp and it was back down under the gauge start reading of 50c until the oil heated up again, as far as i can see mine dosnt follow coolant temp at all like the calculation would, i can also log oil temp sensor and oil temp cal and they do read different to each other, my gauge is same as oil temp sensor values

Weird thing is, I can't find that thing in any wiring diagrams.

just found this from hpt chris but copied from another forum, just explains the settings for the oil temp

Oil Temp Config lets you set how the Oil Temp is calculated and displayed the options are:
    - Calc ECM (oil temp is calculated from ECT and a few other things)
    - Calc ECM & Disp Sens (ECM uses calulated oil temp but gauge uses sensor measurement)
    - Sens ECM (ECM uses sensor measurement if no sensor faults exist)
    - Sens ECM & Disp (ECM & gauge use sensor measurement if no faults exist)

Thanks. I need to see if my Camaro have these options.

I can verify those cars have a 3 wire oil level/temp sender. I just finished building one.

IRC, I struggled to find anything in the wiring diagrams when I looked a few years ago for 2010 Camaro. I think I finally found it, but don't remember for sure. If I get a chance, I'll dig this weekend.

It's not in the diagrams under Engine Controls, even though all the wiring only goes to the ECM. Also not in Gauges & Indicators.
