Can you change the VIN and the vehicle description without changing the OS???

gen 3 swap - 2018 hemi went into 2003 dakota

customer wanted the BCM and its functions so he got a 2005 Ram NGC3 5.7 hemi controller

he built a stoker motor purchasing a crank that came with the early reluctor,

trying to find out which part number was on the outside and and what OS was on the inside as i am typing this

he "took the controller to someone who used a snap-on scanner to change the VIN to that of the dakota"

he sent me a read of the controller and looking at it brings up the question -

can you change the VIN and the vehicle description without changing the OS??? (using a snap-on "scanner")

if you look at the pics it would appear this controller has the 4.7's OS back in it:

I have a snap on Solis and it will let me change the vin on some PCM but never seen an option to change description, I believe that comes from HP when it decodes the vin.
Some reason MY FCA Software can does not give a very good description on that OS but I can tell you it is different from the OS assigned to that vin.

    great thx

looks like the truck came with a PCM P/N 56028720A_

which contained the manual trans 4.7 OS 56028616AI (for a wedge motor)

now truck has PCM #WhoKnows wired in

containing gen III 5.7 auto OS 56028873AH within

and that OS does not include an 'airflow factor offset' table.

make sure to update to the latest beta, just had them add some airflow tables maybe it will include that OS as well.
