Read fails after 3 minutes...

I just got my upgrade in the mail from serial to USB.

I am trying to connect to a DuraMax diesel. I have not purchased credits for this vehicle yet.

When I plug in to the vehicle and hit read calibration it brings up the window that allows me to begin the read. I thought this was odd as I expected to be prompted to license the vehicle. It says it is going to take about 7 minutes to read the VCM. This seems strange as well as the other cars only take 1.5 minutes. Anyway, after about 3 minutes, it says it is going to read the TCM, and then ends with a TCM read failed at location 0 Error: Timed out.

I tried multiple times and it did the same thing.

Why don't I get prompted to buy credits when I hit "read calibration"?

Why does the read go for 3 minutes and then fail?

make sure you don't have any inline tuners like banks, edge, etc.

Many Duramax require you do the read in low speed mode also so try that. It will take a bit longer but it should go through.

Should I be able to read the VCM even though I didn't license the vehicle yet?

yes you can read any vehicle without even licensing it now.

I got it to work when reading at slow speed. It took 27 minutes!

The write worked (after licensing) and only took 1.5 minutes though...
