99 gmc jimmy ecm question

Hi,
I already have the vcm suite for use on my 3800sc fiero. I would like to also use it on my 99 gmc jimmy.

My question is that, is there any advantage to swap to a later year ecm and harness if the motor is soon going to be replaced with a modified lower mileage one. I was unsure if there are more parameters that would be better suited to help with tuning.

I'm using the HP Tuners on my wife's 98 GMC Jimmy with the stock engine retrofitted with all her old 92 GMC Typhoon parts, Turbo,Headers,Downpipe ect.
It's been good so far. Looking into a Marine intake manifold (has external) injectors so I can run her stock 36lb/hr injectors off her Typhoon.

It's darn fun to drive with 8psi and a little tuning. Much better than the log truck it was!
