    4wd to 2wd tuning

i'm looking to swap from awd to 2wd. i think i have about everything figured out. execpt for the service 4wd stuff. i think thats controlled by the bcm correct? or can i just unclick it all in hpt for the pcm? my tahoe has stabilitrack also. i would like for that to still be able to work somewhat for winter driving incase i need it. other wise it will be tuned out for all other seasons.

A more thorough explanation would be good. What are you building here ?
Yes there are BCM related items, ECM related items, IPC related items, etc...it's going to be a lot more help if we knew what you're doing with your project.

well i am looking to install a t56 into my tahoe. and ditching the a4 and awd. also installing a 383 ls1 stroker motor (eagle stroker kit). don't worry i have been insured that the built t56 i'm getting will hold. also going to a 4.88 rear gear to make gearing with the taller truck tires alittle better.

all you need to do is unplug your transfercase control module it directly tells your cluster to display the service 4x4 light. no module = no can message = no light

if its not to big you can host it here. or email it to me and i'll put it on photo bucket. or you can open your own photobucket for free and host it.

your not talking about the body control module are you? its kinda under the steering wheel shaft in the dash. hope not cause you need that to run all the other body stuff.

heres an exerpt from the gm service manual

    Service 4WD Indicator
The SERVICE 4WD indicator is an integral part of the cluster and cannot be serviced separately. This indicator is used to inform the driver of the vehicle of malfunctions within the FT4WD transfer case system. The SERVICE 4WD indicator is controlled by the transfer case shift control module via a Class 2 message.
and heres another pic of the tcs control mod if i had to guess i would say its located behind the glovebox maybe

i think its behind the heater assy almost on the firewall (ugh)

i do have another option for you thou but i'm not sure if it will work

there is a 30a fuse in the fuse block(underhood) labeled "TREC"

according to my service manual it provides power to the transfercase encoder motor and the module and nothing else

    i would try pulling it

technicly speaking no 12v+ = module not on = no class 2 message
    = no light

that may work too. i'm still awd at the moment i need to figure out a way to test this. if i unplug the encoder on the t-case it should set a light right? then if i undo the fuse and restart the truck the light should be out because the module didn't send the code. right? then plug it all back together until trans swap time. now for another question. will my stabilitrac still work? i think mine has a sensor on each wheel which tells the pcm/bcm if there is any tire slipage. when it senses slipage it just applies the brakes to that tire to stop the spinning. there are no sensors on the t-case besides the one speed sensor and the encoder module. i would like for the stabili trac to some what work still because it would be good to keep the rear end under the truck during daily driving. and it helps for over and understeer and such.

now with that said i need to be able to turn it off. the only way to completely shut it off is to hit the 4lo button. or for the pcm to get the 4lo signal. which i think is a ground it may be a 12 volt signal but i could just hook up a push button switch with ground or 12vdc and hook it to the wire. just thinking outloud here. does you service manual cover my tahoe or is it general?

i would just pull the fuse and if you dont get a light i would say your safe

weird things can happen to encoder motors when disconnected and the module powered up (i.e become unsyncronized)

yes there is a 4x4 low wire on the pcm but you will set bcm codes (not erasable via hp tuner (to my knowledge)

if it was me i would tap into one of the wheel sensor wires and put a relay on it- when disconnected you will get an abs light and traction control, abs, and stabilitrac will deactivate) hook the wire back up and then do a key cycle and the abs light will be on untill you hit 8 mph (according to the service manual) and the light will go off and you have everything again

to answer you final question i i'm accessing gm si so i'm looking at the tahoe manual
