    MPVI Help

This is the first time I am using this on my computer and I cannot get it to recognize the MPVI, I have XP.
I plug it in and it refers to it as a "USB Serial Controller" instead of the "HP tuners MPVI" like the help file shows. Can anyone help me figure this out.

I know exactly what the problem is.

Your using a serial interface not a usb interface.

Thats your serial to usb adapter driver installer and has nothing to do with hptuners.

It means your not using a usb interface, you are using a serial interface & therefore don't need any drivers installed to use our software.

Just download & run the newest public version available on your customer page & your done with your HP Tuners installation.

If your having a problem installing your serial to usb adapter(which hptuners does not sell, has never sold & never will sell) you should consider contacting the company that manufactured your adapter.

Even without the adapter, plugged straight in, I still get the same message. My computer will not recognize the MPVI. I plug it in and the "found new hardware" promt pops up and it does not refer to the MPVI (HP Tuners MPVI) like the help file states. The screen shot above shows the help file with what it should look like and right next to it is what I am getting. It only recognizes it as a "USB-Serial Controller" which is why it will not find any drivers on the disc. I had every thing hooked up to the car and tryed to flash it and It could not find the MPVI.

IT IS NOT AN MPVI! It is a serial interface, your computer will not need to "recognize" it. Nor does it need any drivers to function properly.

You are probably hooking it to your monitor port just not knowing what it is.

Or you need the correct driver for your USB-Serial converter...

Again - nothing to do with HP Tuners.

The usb adapter didnt work so I plugged it in to the COM 1 port next to the monitor port, I had to change the setting for the port to work. And thanks but I am not an idiot If I were trying to plug it in to the monitor port I would obviously have no monitor.there is know way that would work anyway as the monitor port is male and the COM port is female. Thsnks for the help.

    We've seen it happen

BTW you won't loose your monitor if you plug something into it, I do it all the time when using dual monitors.

Yeah, if you can go without a USB/Serial adapter you will be much happier.

Yea, it was much easier once I changed the settings. It went nice and easy.
I guess its not hard to belive someone would try to plug something other than a monitor in to the monitor port, there are some real geniuses out there.

IIRC one person plugged the USB cable directly into the monitor port without the MPVI.

    Edit-- OBDII cable not USB....
