    Tuning Spreadsheets

There have been a lot of various spread sheets posted here on the forum. I'd like to gather a collection of them in one post, this one.

If you have developed a spreadsheet to help with your tuning and wish to share it with others, please post the link here.

Please describe how your spread sheet works and what its capabilities are. If you upgrade your spread sheet please modify this post to reflect your new changes for users to read about.

This post is for spreadsheet creators only with the links to their work. Please do not ask questions about the spreadsheets in this post.

    Thanks for your contributions!

    Re: Tuning Spreadsheets

I developed an Excel spreadsheet that can be used to estimate HP. First you must log a "Run". This can be at a track or an abandoned airfield (do not try this on the road, that would be illegal ). I do my runs in third gear and go from around 3500 rpms to 6000 rmps, WOT. After the run, export the data to a .csv file. Then edit the .csv file to show only the data you want (delete unwanted rows, only leave 100 TP rows and a few before and after or an entire 1/4 mile run). Now copy that data and past it into this spreadsheet in the “Data” tab, making sure you get the data in the upper left hand cell.

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/akaeh/HPTracking.xls

If you want the graphs, you will have to name some groups of cells. The instructions for that (as well as everything else) are in the first tab of the spreadsheet. Here is a copy of one that has one of my runs (normally aspirated). It has everything set up. If you have any questions or comments, PM me. Good luck.

Caveat Snarfor - don't hurt yourself now....

All transmission settings for v1.4.0 copied into Excel
table with formatting all nice-nice; pretty tweaked up
for nice A4 shift action, 3.23s, 285/40R17 tires:

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/PCM_Trans_20040823.xls

Pretty good 85mm Delphi MAF table:

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/Del...F_20040715.xls

A min(Camaro, GTO) line pressure force motor table
(meaning max pressure between the two):

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/ForceMotorCurrent.xls

Lean Cruise settings, never mind that it's crippled....

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/Lea...ctorvalues.xls

A torque management 'sheet of some sort

    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jimmyblue/Tor...l_20030401.xls

An attempt to make shift action more visualizable:

    Another visualization sandbox:

A series of TM torque reduction tables that produce a
"torque plateau" profile of N lb-ft shaft input torque
on the transmission (more of a straight torque limit
function that leaves you alone at part throttle and
still gives some power through the shifts):

    Re: Tuning Spreadsheets

Well, in wanting to give a little something back, I put together this database based on much of the info I have been gathering over the last month. Thanks to many for their input.

I will be adding a lot more as I go to have one central place to get a lot of great tuning info. I was in the process of adding Scooter70's Gear Calc sheet but didn't have time to finish. It's in their but the formulas are not accurate yet. Maybe tomorrow. I'll update the link as I go.

I would also like to incorporate other sheets posted (Jimmyblue's and others) here. I will as time allows and as long as no one objects.

Comments and polite criticism welcome. Any bugs, just let me know. I've been using it and so far the results have been positive. Nothing here is an exact scienc for all cars. Some of it is still trial and error.

From the online help file - Please Read!

System Requirements: To fully utilize this application you must first have HPTuners VCM Software Package. You must also have Microsoft Access 2000 and Microsoft Excel installed on your PC or Laptop. Lastly, to tune for Wide Open Throttle (WOT) Power Enrichment (PE), you must have a WideBand o2 Sensor and Logging Software. This application was developed using the LM1 Wideband Sensor from Innovate Motorsports. I have also incorporated the Wideband Commander Log File. However, this application could be modified easily to access other logs.

    1. Copy the program to the folder of your choice and launch it.
    2. Select Configuration and set your file paths and other info
    3. In the configuration form, select your type of WBo2 log next to the WBo2 Folder setting. Currently there is only support for LM1 and Wideband Commander. If someone sends me another log type, I'll incorporate it.
    3. Update the Customer section with your info
3b. Copy and paste your IFR Table and PE Tables from HPT-Editor (current dump of your PCM) into the LTFT, IFR, and WOT PE Forms). You'll se what I mean when you open it up.
    4. Import your HPT Log
    5. If available, import your WBo2 log
    6. Not much more than that right now but more to come

Note that the screens are currently designed to work in 1024x768 mode or larger. If anyone needs it in 800x600 let me know. Hopefully 640x480 is not needed.

Note: Use at your own risk!!! It has not been fully tested. Feedback welcome (under a different topic as per Keiths original post).

8/25/04 - Updated version with a few fixes including calculated Gear at RPM And Speed.

8/25/04 - Updated the dif_import.xls to allow the user to configure it (and resave it) and change the input and output folders of the LM1log.CSV File. Just open it, modify the folders, resave it. There are instructions for using it when you open it. I'm going to make one more change as soon as I can to allow the user to select from other file names besides LM1Log.csv.

Also, below is a file to update the Rrgistry (Windows XP but may work on other versions) to fix the max file locks and allow larger log files to be imported.

    Re: Tuning Spreadsheets

Wait4me / Jes - your spreadsheet looks awesome, but it didn't take a HPT formatted .csv. It was not able to work with any data.

Just an FYI to yourself and others.

This post can be deleted if/when the spreadsheet is changed.

I remember seeing this a while ago wait4me. I could never get it to work with HP Tuners though but it looks nicely put together. Would it help if I sent you an HP Tuner CVS file?

My latest trans settings (updated for 3.42s, increasing line
pressure for better TCC holding power, etc.) I have
copied into Excel form and hosted at:

That version is outdated. I paid the shareware fee to 'NBM-WS6 Driver' for the registered version but haven't been able to get in touch with him for about the last year. There are some bugs in the VBS but it's a locked spreadsheet.

The file used to be located here: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/nbm_ws6/

If someone wants the latest version, someone will need to host it. There are only a few functions which are restricted to registered users. It was released before VE was being discussed, so no support there. I woulds suggest making a backup copy of the original file and only play with copies.

    Re: Tuning Spreadsheets

i am done mostly with the update for hptuner spreadsheet cvs files. the only thing i havent finished is the time stuff, so when you insert the file on the first tab, dont put in the "time" column or you will get an error, ill fix it when i get time,

Jess did you ever get this thing fixed to work with HPT? I really want to look at the MAF transfer function.

Do you have a HPT version of this spreadsheet? I can only get a few of the knock related outputs to work.

I have a version which I modified to recognize the necessary HPT column headers. I haven't yet used it with HPT, however, so I don't know if ther are any issues (like Jess indicated earlier about the time column).
