    Timing Tuning

How do you guys do your timing tuning? looking to figure out how i want to try it, i've tried a few different things in the past and worked, but nothing has worked as well as i had hoped.

At the track. Give it some here and there and scan on the next run. If it goes faster with no knock retard it liked it.

I use the Scan Data Thingy!! I adjust based on daily driving for the most part, normally at the track I adjust timing using the AFR Spark table (this is zero'd out normally)

i guess i wasn't clear, i'm not looking to do WOT timing, that one i've been doing Eddie's idea on since that table became available, im talking part throttle and cruise timing.

So was I It is not ready for HPT yet, but the program I use will ad timing to cells with no KR, while keeping track of the cells with KR.

    Here, check this out...

that is just along the lines i was looking for Eddie! could we export the .hpl to excell and then use this program to do a timing table?

Thats pretty neat. Only thing is the ideal timing is not necessarily max timing just before KR. But I can't think of a better solution for non-WOT timing tuning other than a load bearing dyno where you could park it at different loads and play with the timing and AFR to see where the most power or least fuel usage is.

No. The version I am using (I haven't added it to that page yet) will import an HPT scan and MAF table. You can use it to adjust MAF, but I haven't coded the VE or spark table stuff for HPT yet. I didn;t knwo if there would be anyone wanting to use it since everyone sems to like the histo's so much. I wrote this for PT users, since they didn't have anything like it.

If you're interested, I could add the code for importing VE and spark tables from HPT.

Only thing is the ideal timing is not necessarily max timing just before KR.
I agree, but this does seem to work pretty good - as long as you now what you're doing and not just adding timing everywhere. There are a few filters (not nearly as many as for MAF and VE tuning) that can help with this.

it would be awsome if you could add the timing function, like you said for VE and MAF i like the Histo's.

I'll see what I can do for ya then. What kind of car do you have? Right now, it only supports GM V6 cars. The V8 cars have larger tables and the lowly V6's.

I like using it for MAF and VE tuning more than spark tuning though. I can make changes faster with this then using the histo's - but that is starting with a V6 VCM file in the raw binary format.

I would also love the timing function at the very least so that I will not have to keep a log of KR per cell myself making it much easier to do a timing tune.

OK guys, wanna test it out? I played around a little tonight to make sure it worked, but I haven't had time to document everything yet so here's the basic how to...

Export a scan from HPTuner to .csv
Export the MAF table and High Octane Table from the VCM file you're using
Import the scan, then the MAF table, then the High Octane table in the table modifier program.
From there you can export a new MAF table or a High Octane Table. Just be sure to select HPTuner as the file type when importing or exporting.

The rest of the info you should need is on the web site along with a link to download the file at the bottom of the main page. If you have any problems, let me know. You guys are the beta testers Have fun!
