    Shift light and CAGS

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Can the CAGS be tunred off but the shift light left on and actually used a shift light and altered to turn on at a desired rpm?

Yes. It is actually very easy. You can also use the PCM output to power a relay to run a real shift light. I spent a few $ at Radio Shack and bought a relay and 3 LEDs. Makes a great shift light.

Drop me an email and I will send screen shots of exactly what to do to set up your bin file.

Maybe I am just being stupid but when I click "Insert Image" all it gives me is a box to input a URL (web site).

I've also done this but needed to keep my PC connected to make it work. Have you been able to accomplish a working shift light without having your laptop connected?

    If so, please educate me.

    Thanks

How did you get it to work with the laptop plugged in?

You do not have to have the laptop hooked up in order for this to work.

Also, I am not sure which vehicles this will work on but it does work on my 2003 C5. It did not work on my old V6 Firebird.

First, set up the Bin file.

    Under Engin / General

    set the following:

    Shift Light
    Master: Enable
    Lamp Output: Enable
High RMP: 6000 (or what ever you want)
the rest are just the default values

For testing, set the RPMs to 2000 so it is easy to test.

    Now for the hard part.

This info is for my 2003 C5, your wiring might be diffrent.

On PCM connector C2, Pin 47 is a white wire. This is the Skip Shift Indicator Control. If memory serves me it is a ground switch. Use it on the ground side of a relay. Use 12V power from the battery to the relay control circuit. When you hit your RPM, wire 47 will connect to ground and complete the circuit, pulling in the relay.

Now wire some 12V LEDs into the output side of the relay with the 12V supply voltage. Now when you hit the RPMs, the relay will close and power your LEDs. Mount them (I used 3) somewhere you can see them and you are done. The wiring should look like this:

    Control side of relay

    12V -------Relay -------- Wire 46

    Output side of relay

    12V -------Relay ---------LEDs-------Ground.

Hope all this makes sence. Please cunsult your wire diagrams and use a volt meter to check before you put power on anything.

So the skip shift light is the actual shift light?

    Yes.

You would actually have 2. The skip shift light on the insterment cluster and the external one on the LEDs. They both come on at the same time. The skip shift light is NOT bright enough to use as a shift light by its self (in my opinion).

Hmm, I played with this option this afternoon. I do not know if I had all the settings right. I have a 99 LS1 fbody nd my skip shift light did not go on when I tried setting everything up

    Under Shift Light option:
    Master - enabled
    Lamp output - enabled
    High RPM - 2000 rpm
    Min ECT - 0 degrees F
Max On Time - 60.0 sec
    Low ECT Select - 0 degrees F
Min Clutch Out - 0.00 sec

then there are a whole bunch of tables under that.

My hp tuners is set to Expert Mode currently.

Now I am thinking that there might be a seperate output on the PCM for this instead of the skip shift light. Would anyone have a wiring schematic.

Maybe it only works if you have a vehicle that came from the factory with a shift light of some sort, like the OP's C5 with the CAGS shift light.

I think that is correct. I know I did not have this on my 2001 Firebird.
