Read Entire VCM Process - How Does this Work?

This might be computer specific, so I placed it here instead of the VCM Suite forum

What is happening during the "Read Entire VCM" process?

Does the software attempt to poll vehicle sensor to receive a response?

I notice at this time, there are several noises happening from the engine
compartment, and lights flashing/gauges moving on the cluster.

If the checksum returns an error 4000, does that mean a sensor, or device
polled did not return a reply?

If this is true, does the number 4000 indicate a certain sensor address?

Here is a screen shot of what I'm receiving:

The car in question is a 2002 Firebird.

Looks like there is something wrong with that PCM specifically. If it has been programmed with another product and tunerlocked you will get errors like that.

If so, there is no way around it.

Actually, this is a similar post to my other which you answered. The code
is likely due to a low battery voltage, however I'm wondering how the
    software works.

What is going on 'behind the scenes' while the "Read Entire VCM" is occuring?

Is the software polling sensors, and computer cells for a response?

    I'm not looking for a total detailed breakdown (but that would be cool too);
even a block box description would be great.

    Thanks.

Well it's actually pretty simple (sort of):

HPT polls the VIN & other stuff to make sure that you are reading/writing the correct file to the correct PCM/ECM/VCM.
Then it downloads the correct bootloader
    The battery voltage is checked
    Then the PCM/ECM/VCM unlocks
    Then the program gets written
(Battery voltage gets checked somewhere along the line by HPT or the bootloader or both)
The bootloader finishes tidying up after the program is written
HPT verifies that everything got installed correctly
    Done
