Thread: PCM Swap

    PCM Swap

The first VCM read is from a 1997 S10 2.2L. After reading I was unable to open it and was instructed to send an email to support (which I did).

What I am trying to accomplish,
My customer has a 1997 S10 2.2L, something shorted out on the fuel system so he replaced the fuel tank sending unit and dash gauges. The engine will run, however the fuel gauge does not respond. Part of the VCM was also shorted so he purchased a new VCM from a 1998 Cavalier 2.2L to replace.

I attached the file for the Cavalier. It read no problem and I can edit.

We tried using the Cavalier VCM in the truck, and after start up, the engine dies immediately. (any Ideas)

I found a tune in the repository for a 1999 S10 2.2L and was wondering if I can reflash the Cavalier VCM with this tune?

    Your help is greatly appreciated

Have you done a passlock relearn?

    Thats a good point!
I didn't think to try because the truck fires up and then dies.

I'll see if the relearn works.

Hum would be really surprised if it was a passlock relearn as most of the ones I have seen won't even start. Also if it needed a CASE learn most of the time it will set the CEL. But it could be the issue, would love to hear the results.

Sounds like passlock. Engine cranks, then starts for 2 sec and stalls (fuel pump and injectors disable) for each cycle of the key.

You can also disable VATS with HP tuner!

If you're good at reading schematics & wiring diagrams, you can try your hand at building your own circuit to fool the system kind of like a remote starter does. My friend did this to his truck before I purchased it.
