also could this be a engine mngnt. seems like same prob. ihad with 94 on perf. mode. its like a slip or something taking away from trans @shift points. can i run scan or trans. diag. ?

Yes, the PCM has an Engine TM and Trans TM. I would highly advise against deleting the Trans TM, I would just reduce it. As for Engine TM ... go ahead and kill it.
thanks ,appreciate the input just a newbie but got to start somewhere or you'll just sit and watch everyone go by

I think you should log your trans shifting related params
and see what's up. Particularly your input and output
shaft RPM. Look at the ratio in Excel. What you want to
see is a crisp step from gear to gear, with the shaft ratio
in/out moving directly to the nominal gear ratio of the box
within a couple of "ticks" (tenths of a second). The input
shaft RPM should reduce monotonically. What you don't
want to see is "flare" (input RPM goes up sharply and
then down) or an extended time for the shift to complete.
If you hear it "hooting" this may be slip in the various
frictions. That would be bad. The higher-stall/STR
converter makes life more difficult for the trans as it
multiplies the torque just as you're trying to shift. So
you may have to up shift pressures and lower the
adaptation time settings (try 0.15) to stiffen it up.
Torque management will roll back the delivered torque
long enough for the clutches to grab. The new converter
unfortunately fools the delivered torque - trans calcs
I believe because the PCM "expects" the stock profile
of slip vs torque@RPM, and when it sees 2000RPM
of shaft slip it (I believe) figures in a -lot- of multiplication
leading to higher torque reduction commanded.
Try something like this. Look at your Engine > Spark Retard
vs Torque Reduction table. Find the point where it commands
a (say) 15 degree retard. On mine this is about 9% (9.3%
is 16 degrees). Taking out 15 degrees would leave you with
15 advance at WOT, which is a fair bit better than -10
through the shifts.
Now go to the trans torque reduction, Torque Reduction % vs
Torque vs Gear. If you want to get 15 degrees of spark
taken out and give the trans an easier time, rework the
table so its max reduction is 9% (or whatever) and it slides
on into it smoothly. The idea is to never command more
reduction, than you like the spark pullout for. The stock
table pulls out up to 37% torque and 32 degrees timing.
Afterward log your Delivered Torque - Engine (which is a
less-convoluted calculation) and see how much torque
drop you get across a shift. Probably want to slide it
back to 250lb-ft, because if you were to see the 2.2:1
multiplication (insert your converter value here, this
is for my TCI SF3000) you want to stay below the
600lb-ft "rating" (less, lasts longer) for multiplied torque
put to the input shaft. 250lb-ft will keep you moving
forward but be a lot kinder than 350+ lb-ft, multiplied
up by the converter being flash-resisted by the trans
shift. Massage the reduction value up or down a hair
until you get a torque cut that you like the feel of. Or
are prepared to tolerate in the name of service life.
THANKS JIMMYBLUE Seen your posts and looks like you've been doing your homework.I appreciate you taking the time to help I know its hard to figure out whats up not being at car but you might of sent me down the right path also it only does it WOT. THANKS AGAIN TRANS MAN!!!!!
