    96-97 vortec trucks

I have a vcm suite package, what do I need to program the early obd II vehicles (1996-97)?

    The 96-97 trucks arent supported.
You need to swap your BLACKBOX Vortec 96-97 PCM for a 411 PCM and use a base calibration file for a 2001-2002 GMC Savana or CHev Express van as these vans used teh older Vortec 305,350 and were conrolled by the 411 PCM.
You sinply push the pins out of the blackbox PCM and insert them into teh correct position of the newer 411 PCM, plus tehre are a coupel extra wires you will need to run.
This swap will allow you to use HPTuners to tune teh 96-97 trucks.
More info here.(long read but its all there)

Get the pin assigmnet charts for a 1997 truck, and an 01-02 van and start swapping.
Register at this site http://www.pacificp.com/forum/index.php and PM a guy named Lextech, send him an email address, he has a sheet he can email you that has ALL the exact changes for the 97 truck 411 swap. There are a couple small differences between all the years of early vortec trucks.

If you want to get BIG power from a Vortec smallblock, you'll need to swap in a GM/Mercruiser Marine Intake manifold. it uses a conventional fuel rail/injetor setup that is OUTSIDE the intake plenum(unlike the stock Vortec intake).
I did this intake swap on a stock longblock Vortec 350 and theres no more over 5000 rpm power dropoff.

i am very interested in support for these

plus iirc the s10's/blazers ran the same pcm (4.3)

that and there is no other tuning package i'm aware of except tunercat that will do them (and thats not really an option anymore)

Keith, I have one if you need one, I work in Libertyville if you want to meet and pick it up. I drive through north Suburbs daily. I have a spare I don't need right now.

They are a goofy one, closer to the 96-97 PCM than the 98-00 Black Box PCM's....

I would be happy with just scanner support, if I had to pick one or the other!

I spoke with B&B (home of AutoTap) and they did say they were seriously looking at finally fully supporting the 96-97 Black Box PCM's.

So politely talk to Joe Ebner about it (the online chat) and see if they have started.

Honestly, inside it is closer to a 96-97 LT1 PCM than any I have seen.

Hey you have only seen the inside of one of those.

They are a "funky" one as compared to most 98-up PCM's....

Wow, that looks a lot different than the 98+ black box PCMs. Does it actually use two flash chips? Sort of looks like it from the photo. The datalink controller and hardware drivers are a lot different, too. Individual transistors and different drivers instead of the usual quad drivers in the earlier and later computers. Weird...

Yes, these look more like a 94-95/96-97 LT1 PCM.

any talks of 123 bar conversion for 98 vortec. I have been waiting years for vortec support now that I have it I want more. I have a 383ht with powerdyne blower. Believe it or not the spyder has done quite well so far but i like my engine so I will be upgrading the fuel injection. When I do i would like to tune it the RIGHT way.

If GM didn't make it, it isn't going to happen.

Best thing to do is swap to an 0411 PCM and use the "custom" OS's there. But as for the old BB PCM's, not likely going to happen.

Talk to Lextech on it, he has done one and by far best thing you can do.

    Not really.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

I really hope we can get support for the 96 and 97's. Just simple parameters like the 98-00 vortec's have.

Scanner or editor support? As far as I can tell the 99-00 have nearly as many supported parameters as the early LS1 pcm's.
