2001 Monte Carlo SS: SWAP Vin change?

I have customer who has swapped a 2005 Monte Carlo S/C motor into his 2001 Monte Carlo. The engine runs very well with the 05' ecu, but will not communicate with the BCM and other modules as you would expect. Since I am unable to change the vin on the VCM to the 01 we are unable to do a GM relearn.
Does anyone have any idea on how to make the VCM communicate with the BCM. We do not have access to the 2005 vehicles BCM so swapping the other modules is not an option.

Have you thought about leaving the 2001 PCM in the car? You can change a bit in the PCM so it knows there is a supercharger. This will allow you (the PCM) to see boost. Since the 01 had a 3800, you should be able to copy over the importaint SC related tables and starts tuning from there.

How is it that you are running an 05 bin file on an 01 car? The transmission electronics changed in 03 and running an 04+ bin on an 00-03 car can cause ill effects with the transmission.

I'm curious about this because I'm currently trying to top swap my 01 Monte Carlo SS. I'm having trouble finding info on what bin I should use. I've heard from ZZP and another vendor that I should use the L36 (NA 3800) bin file and 1 bar MAP. According to ZZP, that's what they use for the ZZP SS M90 kit.

I would love to hear of someone using their own bin with the supercharger bit enabled. I would be more than happy to do this for you, if you let everyone know how your tuning goes. I know you will read boost with a 2 bar sensor if the PCM expects to see a supercharge, so why won't your exisiting bin work with this one exception? Using a L36 bin will cause problems on a boosted engine, like when the PCM resets BARO every time you go WOT.

Eddie, I would appreciate it if you'd be willing to do it for me. The only thing is that I'm not going to be top swapped for a while. I'm currently gathering parts and I'm throwing in a few supporting mods at the same time so I'm trying not to spend all my money at once.

How similar is this to what blemke is doing for KrunchSS? I was under the impression that Krunch was still having issues with the hybrid file.

If using an L36 bin is such a bad thing, why do the vendors swear by it? Are they knowingly causing harm to the customers' vehicles? I'm just curious because if it's such a huge deal, you would think that someone would have brought this to attention before.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    P.S. I'm whitelightnin on gmv6pcm.

No one is trying to hurt anyone. The reason most vendors want you to use your existing file is because this is the best one AVAILABLE for the car. It's not perfect, but I guess it's better then the GTP PCM. On a GP, I've heard most using a GTP PCM file, but with the MC it's a bit different due to other control modules (like the BCM for example).

Bill and Dwayne are going several steps further then just changing the supercharger bit, they are copying over large amounts of the supercharged code to a N/A PCM.

Shoot me a PM on the DHP board when you get ready and I'll take care of that for ya. Who knows, by that time Bill and Dwayne may have re-writtem the PCM and put together the perfect solution.

Since we are on the HPT board, I've got to ask, would we be able to find this bit in an hpt file, or only in a raw bin file?

HPTuner encrypts the raw binary file before it saves it. You'd have to have a copy of the raw binary file before you could do anything with it outside the HPT editor.

yeah, and AFAIK, HPT won't read to a raw bin file. Damn, yet another limitation.

Nope, sure won't. I personally don't use the HPTuner editor, I only use it for scanning and flashing. Because of this, I am working with a raw binary file. Fortunately, HPTuner will read the raw binary file
