Invalid VIN/OS pair/ how to get around?

I am currently working on a 1998 Camaro, it has a 99+ pcm that has been properly repinned and setup by another tuner using EFILive. I am able to read and save the tune but unable to reflash due to the vin # not matching the OS. Current vin is ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ, current OS is 12212156. I would reflash it to a valid 02 VIN/ OS but then would have issues with the fuel gauge (been down that road before, not fun. Is there any way around this????? Thanks in advance!

A valid vin needs to be flashed into the pcm & learned and then read with our software.

The current vin in the pcm is invalid for the operating system in the pcm.

It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

This I realize and herein lies the problem. The only way to get a valid vin into the PCM is to do a flash via Tech2 (no problem). The issue that does arise is that after the flash is completed there is no way to do a fuel system segment swap. Making the fuel gauge inoperative. If someone from HPTuners could do a fuel system segment swap the proper 2002 Express vans Fuel system segment # is 16264662/ Checksum $EFAB. I would love to find a true solution for this to make things simpler for everyone. Thanks!!

The only solution would be to have a valid vin flashed in.

That would be able to let me license it but there is no way to get around the fuel system segment swap......correct? Couldn't someone of HPT setup a license able 2002 camaro OS and post it in the repository so you could just start with that and go from there? I would be happy to supply any helpful information along with my personal findings. I really don't want to purchase another tuning program but at this point have no other solutions

All he would need to do is have a valid vin for the os flashed in and then reread with our software. In this case the vin section appears to be corrupt, as does the vcm id number as valid information needs to be flashed in.

So how do you write a VIN without rewriting to the most current OS. Because if everything is rewrote I will have to setup the fuel segment swap, which to the best of my knowledge is not possible. Could you please help with a step by step process? Thanks!

In this case I don't believe our software will be able to JUST flash in a valid vin.

can you get a stock tune for that vehicle and carry all the tune over onto another base?

ie. copy and paste the data?

Is there a link or help file anywhere that explains valid VIN #'s for specific OS's?

But in regards to a specific OS...say in order to run a 2000 VIN in a 2001 program...or does the model year always have to agree?

year model must always agree or it would break our year/model licensing.

I'm confused so if I do a LT1 to LS1 PCM conversion I cannot keep my GM VIN number because my VIN corresponds to CAL ID 16257691.

If you know somebody that has EFILive that will just let you use it for a few minutes, you can use the EFILive scantool and change the vin. I have a 99 car with an 02 OS and I had the same issue. I have a very good tuner friend and he sent me his EFILive scanner and I changed my VIN to an 02 VIN and the rest as they say is history.

...and then your HPTuners license for your vehicle won't work anymore, and when you try to relicense it, you'll get the invalid VIN/OS pair error.

    Just don't reread the pcm

Just keep flashing in the old file, the vin doesn't change unless you actually follow the vin change procedure so flashing in a non valid vin can work in many cases.

Does the LT1 vin really matter?
I dont know of anything on the LS1 pcm that cares if your vin matches the other crap in the car...
    I have flashed many 99 and 00 LS1's with 2002 OS's...
you loose their original vin #...but who cares..
even CA doesnt care if the vin matches if you tell them its from a junkyard cause the old computr died...

    I'm not harping on you...
just trying to figure out why it has to be your LT1 vin # in there
