    6 credits?

    Hello,

Why is it attempting to charge me 6 credits to license my year/model?

I thought it was only 2?

    Thanks

    Car make/model/year?
Does your car have a custom OS on it?

    Edit:
It looks like your confusing "single vehicle license" (2 credits) with "unlimited model/year" (6 credits).

    Thanks for the reply!

It's an LS2 conversion with an LS1 PCM (Porsche). The car was tuned by a tuner, and now I just bought HP to do it myself. I'm not sure about the OS. The only options it's giving me are:

    Year/model license = 6 credits

Unlimited vehicle group = 30 credits

I appreciate it any help. 6 credits seems really excessive!

Well, I'm not quite sure. Maybe Bill or Keith could help you out.

You can, however, check if the system has a custom OS, by opening the .hpt file (without licensing) and clicking the HPT symbol (next to favorites). It should tell you if any of the custom OS's are used.

    It should give you options like this, though;

    Thanks Tyler!

Hmm, it doesn't give me the 2 credit option. Under the HP OS, under General it says:

1 Bar Map speed density enhanced: Unlicensed
2 Bar Map Speed density :unlicensed
3 Bar Map speed density: Unlicensed
    1 Bar MAF enhanced: Unlicensed
    Duramax Switchable RTT: Not available

Am I in the right area to check for custom OS?

    Thank you

If you want to license a year/model it is 6 credits for most applications, some are 12 I believe.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

And yes under the OS tab is where you'll find the custom operating systems available for your application.

It sounds like you are confusing licensing your car vs licensing ALL cars for your year/model.

The single vehicle license is all you need.

    Thanks guys.

I'm sorry for the stupid question, but why don't I have the option to license my car, Single Vehicle License (2 credits)?

Vcm id is corrupt, your previous tuner probably messed it up.

When a pcm is produced it is also given a vcm id number, like your social security number this number is unique to each pcm. If this vcm id number is corrupt or missing there is nothing we are able to lock onto that is unique in the pcm and therefore cannot do a single vcm license and will only give you the license options available in that case which are the year/model & tunershop(if you had enough available credits)

Thank you Bill, I think I understand.

I have 6 credits left and that's what it's asking for. Is it safe for me to commit those 6 credits to tune my car? I'm kind of afraid of spending all of my credits and still being SOL.

When doing a V8 conversion like this and using a VCM from a wreck, is there a way to obtain the VCM id number?

The easiest way would be just to license the year/model in all honesty, there are ways to get a serial number in the pcm but would cost you more time & money than its worth imo.

With your average "junkyard" stock pcms going into a donor car is this usually a problem?

no.. only risk of a junkyard PCM is if it is working or not.. (iguess there is the risk that it has been modified previous to ending up in the junkyard) but a general rule is that junkyard pcm's are fine and wont cause this problem

Unfortunatly when it comes to doing custom swap stuff like that you want to the full year/model. If you want to change the OS on the junkyard pcm, you may need more credits, if you tune it and end up having to buy another pcm, you will need more credits, etc. The only time single vehicle purchasing works is if you only plan to tune one of that vehicle ever for sure and plan to never change the pcm or OS in it. Best example is the new shop I work for. They have spent around 250 credits or so and I have around 120 on my cable. I own a ton of unlimted stuff including an entire Gen III truck group. The shop cable however has almost nothing unlimited year or group. Make sure to chose wisely whenever you tune something new.
