Thread: Wideband readings confirmation

    Wideband readings confirmation

I just installed an AEM wideband with the Bosch sensor on Friday and it is in constant fluctuation between 14.1 and 15.7 afr. There was an exhaust leak where the collector meets the downpipe and I just finished fixing that tonight with an aluminum gasket. This helped narrow down the readings a bit to 14.3 and 15.3 afr when driving 35 mph on flat road for 1 mile on cruise.

The vehicle is a 2004 Supercharged Monte. CAI, Headers, 1.8 rockers. The PCM is a canned DHP PCM upgrade (think chipped) but the VE and MAF tables are virtually unchanged. It is more shift points and 2* of timing added.

I was wondering if this is normal? It fluctuates between the 2 extremes 3 to 4 times a second. I have verified there are no other exhaust leaks.

That's normal. It's never going to be perfect.

Normal. The fluctuation is closed loop (the PCM using feedback from the stock narrow band O2's to add and remove fuel rapidly, thus the flipping back and forth from lean to rich and back. Under WOT it will ready steadier.

I did a wide open run for a short bit to 60 mph before my KR kicks in when I still had the exhaust leak and I noticed that it did steady out there. I just thought it would be 14.7 +/- .1 or .2 at cruise as well.

    Thanks for the insight!!!

Flow rate isn't really that high so there is a delay between what the PCM does and when the sensor sees it so it'll be rocking back and forth constantly to keep it in tollerance I would think.
