PCM Flashing / Updating - Year Changes?

If you purchase HPTuners for 1 Vehicle. It will work for all vehicles of that year. What if several years of that vehicle use the same PCM?

Can for example a 98 PCM from a Grand Prix GTP be re-imaged with a 99 PCM Image file? (and can that be done with the HPTuner?)

If the HPTUner was purchased for a 99 would it even allow the flashing of a 98 to a 99? Would it allow for re-flashing a 99 to another 99?

When GM releases Updated PCM data, is this BIN availiable for download? And if so, can it be loaded to the PCM using HPTuner?)

Do the 6 months of updates support any of this?

If The car is taken to a dealer with a Tech II, can they update your flash to the latest GM flash?

Can the dealer even "update" a 98 PCM to a 99?

My vehicle is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP but 2 years ago the PCM was "upgraded" to a performance one that apparently was designed around a 1998 and thus my PCM's VIN is for the wrong year.

    So many questions :huh2:

our product will work on any vehicle of the year/model purchased. Many of GM's vehicles use the same PCM for multiple years, just with different operating systems and calibrations.

VCM Suite Pro allows flashing the complete operating system, however VCM Suite Std does not (mostly to protect the user from themselves, flashing the entire operating system is not risk free since you are flashing the OS and there is no slot for a boot disk if it goes wrong at a critical point).

the dealer can update the PCM to the latest calibration for your particular VIN#, you can see this by checking out calid.gm.com yourself. the dealer can also set your VIN right as well (as can VCM Suite Pro).

    Ok so here's a question.

If you have a 98 PCM

and that 98 PCM works on all years 98 thru 2002

Couldn't you have a dealer change your PCM's VIN # to match that of a purchased VCM Tuner suite package enabling the re-programming of those vehicles as well?

You don't want to do this anyway! The GTP MAF tables vary from year to year (1998 and 1999 are different, for example), and you can cause some major tuning issues if you're careless.

    Hope this helps.
