like the title says, I was playing around today and noticed that my 05 vette cal called for an ECM slave number, while my 08Z does not...
so what's the purpose of that slave system one the E40 and why is it not on the E38?
thanks!

the slave is the second CPU inside the ECM that controls the ETC and performs various secondary throttle checks (ie. similar to the TAC module on the LS1). It has it's own operating system code and calibration. It communicates with the main cpu using a serial communications interface.
On the E40 we can read and write the slave (although we do not offer any calibrations for it, never needed to) on the E38 we cannot read it and hence don't write to it.
