    tach help

i did a computer swap on a 2000 silverado. we went from the old 4 plug style computer to a newer 2 plug style on the 4.3l. we have a problem where the tach reads lower than it should be reading. the reading in hpt scanner seems to be right but the dash is wrong. what can i do to fix this? does he need to go to the dealer and have the dash cluster recal'd for the newer computer?

So you're saying the rpm's are reading incorrectly?? If thats the case it seems like the cluster isnt getting the correct timed pulses it needs or they're not sync'd or something. If its the speedo you're talking about you can edit the high and low period in the tune under Tach Output on the general tab under Engine.

cant you just adjust the tacho output resolution so it becomes correct

PCMs for GenIII engines transmit a tach pulse at half of the 4 plug 4.3's PCM transmitted. It's pulse comes from the cam sensor, therefore you get 1 pulse for ever 2 revolutions of the engine. I'm not sure how to fix this with HPT, I usually alter the circuit board of my donee car to get the correct tach reading.

ok i got one to work. 4.3 to ls1 swap. had to go from high low of 6 and 6 to 4 and 4. problem is the turbo 4.3l with computer swap has a high low of 1 and 1 and i can't go any lower it won't take .8 and .8 just 1 or 0. so now what do i do? would a newer like 01 4.3l silverado gauge cluster fix it? or could i go to dealer and have them tune the cluster?
