Can you relocate the stock MAF? And tunning update

Just curious what would happen if the stock MAF were to find its way into the 3in pipe right before the turbo? I know I would get a lower signal for the same amount of air, so I could avoid buying an LS6 MAF.

The reading should change in a linear manner, so I should be able to just calculate the difference in the pipe areas, then multiply the stock MAF table by that number right?

I have two reasons for doing this. Since I set PE to Boost threshold at each RPM the tunning has gone pretty well. My blind tune had an A/F ratio of 10:1 and richer (stock O2's are worthless). Now the A/F ratio jumps around a lot, due to the design of the pipe right before the TB/MAF. I'm already working on a new mandrel bent pipe, but looking at every factory turbo kit I can find, they all put the MAF before the turbo. Plus if I eliminate the MAF from the TB, I could smooth out the TB and get more flow there. I think with the increase in flow, and the more accurate tunning I could get some signifigant gains.

    As always opinions appreciated.

I will tell you that you can move the MAF around in the intake tract with no problems.

I am using the SLP recal 85mm MAF that was done for the LS1/LS6 applications.

The throttle bodies I have used this on are the

3800SC 99+ MAF removed and plugged to use the external
    LS1 TB attached to a M90
3800SC 04 MAF is external anyway and replaced with the 85mm

All with excellent results. Custom tuning of the MAF table is a must.

I dont know much about turbos, so I cannt help there.

Here is my 04 engine in a Fiero with the 85mm MAF downstream...

Ihave heard about the LS1/LS6 amf series that they like to have a few inches of straight pipe before and after to be consistent.

Remember, a MAF measures mass flow, and it is temperature compensated. So it should read the same whether it is pre or post boost. just keep it away from the bends!
