Thread: tvs question

    tvs question

A possible customer installed a TVS 1900 on his LS2. He had to send his computer to them for tuning. Can I use the software to read and flash this computer or will it have to be reflashed back to stock first?

  2. #2
you should have no problem with that. magnuson does not lock their tunes as far as I know.

    Thanks for your input

So I can just suck the current magnuson tune from his computer to license it and then modify it and reflash it without any problems?

  4. #4
    yup. just curious, what vehicle?

  5. #5
    It’s a 2006 GTO M6.

    Thanks again

He is unsatisfied with the performance of the conservative magnuson tune.

He is very satisfied with drivability but apparently it won’t break tires loose in second gear.

must not be stock tires, i could break the stock ones loose in 4th at around 93mph. i hated those tires, even with some wider stickier tires i could still get a good bark in second.

i don't see how he cant get tire spin

the tune magnuson has for the gto tvs kits is a mess, in my opinion...(at least the one I was sent by them)

The only mod this car has is the blower everything else including the tires are factory.

What is the ideal AFR for this setup?

    again, thanks for any input

from my understanding you should be around 11.5afr on that application.

all my gto had was a K&N cold air kit and a custom flowmaster exhaust. so it seems there is something wrong with this one

    Thanks again

Apparently he took the screen off the MAF while doing the install. Anyway, his main gripe is bad throttle response so the MAF probably needs tuning.

throttle response is improved mainly via the VE tables...luckily enough, you may have the old style VE tables

if he removed the screen out of the MAF then yes you do need to tune it. the best option would have been to leave the screen in.
06 GTO M6: flowmaster 40 mufflers, x pipe, resonator removed, K&N cold air kit - sold
08 G8 GT: flowmaster 50SUV mufflers, x pipe, resonators removed, ever changing tune, CAI sometime soon.

I plan to look at the VE table first then do the MAF. I just hope everything is right with the blower install.

    Your input is greatly appreciated.

Could you explain how to tell the difference in the MAF tables?

My late 05 GTO has a VE table that uses bigger numbers than my 98 Z28. I presumed it was the virtual table. This will be the first 06 I have tuned.

not a virtual ve table, just a different way of representing ve. (GMVE) Tuned the same way as the older style ve.

just fyi, from experience with the magnuson tvs tune for a gto, if you plan on doing any tuning at all, you may just want to scrap that tune and work off the stock tune. the way they adjust fuel via the injector offset table will have you chasing your tail trying to adjust maf/ve.

Yeah I would tell him to try and stick another screen back in that MAF or get another MAF with the screen in it. That screen is their for a reason.

Took a look at the tune. Below are some things I saw I didnt think was right.

    1. The richest the PE was commanded was 13.3 except above 6500 where it was 12.1 (rev limiter set to 6600 rpm)
    2. The tune is still set up to use fuel cut-off as the rpm control method
    3. VE only increased in 99 and 105 kpa columns from 4400rpm and up

    99 kpa 105 kpa
    0.12500 4.68750
    36.25000 40.81250
    72.37500 76.93750
    108.50000 113.06250
    144.62500 149.18750
    180.75000 185.31250
    216.87500 221.43750

    4. I'm pretty sure the IFR table isnt set up correctly. It only has two values: 62 and 63.09

    Things I dont understand:
    1. Changed dynamic airflow high rpm disable and re-enable from 3600 and 3500 to 2200 and 2100 respectively
    2. They made a lot of changes over a stock file that I dont understand. Not to say they are bad just dont know what they affect. Purely a lack of knowledge on my part

They just don't know WTF they are doing, that's the short answer of it. If I were you, I'd ditch their shitty tune and start from factory and build your own, NOT raping the PE table, and having MAF and/or VE dialed in properly.
