    Russ K or other trans tuner - Trans tuning question

    I have been having an issue for a while with a flare in second gear. I made some changes and it helped but I think I found the main issue but I do not know how to fix it.

    In the scan, frame 308, the TCC Mode goes to Apply Enabled. This is when the problem shows up. I do not see it doing this anyplace else except when it goes from 1st to 2nd. I can't find anything in the tune that would explain it or disable it. The PCS line pressure drops from 96 to 86 at the same time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I would do a line pressure test. Do you have the Corvette servo installed? Any trans DTC's?

    No DTC's
    I have the Superior/Fairbanks Super Servo.
    Transgo HD-2 kit
    Pump spring upgrade
    new separator plate
    Pinless accumulators
    Raybestos Z-pack for 3-4's
    Wider band
    You name, its in it.

    I will check the pressures and report back. Thanks for the help.

    What leads you to a possible pressure issue?

    I checked the pressures and they are all within spec per the manual.

    All readings are with the car stationary, up to temp and idling, foot on brake and shifted through the gears with the shifter, not the VCM controls.

    P = 80 psi
    R = 160 psi
    N = 80psi
    D = 140 psi
    3 = 140 psi
    2 = 130 psi
    1 = 140 psi

    2002 GM truck service manual specs:

    Gear Range
    Line Pressure Range

    Drive, Park or Neutral
    55-189 psi

    Reverse
    64-324 psi

    I dropped the pan and it is clean as can be. That's a good sign.

    What kind of band clearance do you have? everything else looks pretty good.

    Watch the status bits for the TCC enable solenoid and the TCC PWM. The PWM will pulse all the time (after the first time you go to 2nd gear for the rest of the drive). Nothing will happen with the Torque converter until the TCC Enable solenoid goes on.

    The PWM is either on or off per my tune. I have it set at 100 max and 90 min.

    The torque converter clutch does not engage but when the scanner show TCC enable, the pressure percentage drops 10%. The only happens in 2nd gear. When I get to third it turns back off and the pressure goes back up to 96.

    I only Lock the converter in 4th gear.

    I am not sure on the band clearance, I set it to specs when I built it, there is only 8000 miles on it.

    I know have a bigger issue. I lost compression in 5 and 7 and have blow-by. Lucky me.

    I use the Superior servos often and sometimes they can be a little tricky to get right on the 60e's. Then again I am no master trans builder hahaha.
