mpvi not prompting driver install

Just got 2.2 standard and can't get past step 2. When I plug in the mpvi, it does not see it and does not prompt for driver install. I've tried both laptop and desktop with same results. I'm running xp. I've tried even pluggin up to vehicle as well-no prompt.

I need some clarity. Do I need to use the mpvi if my laptop has serial port, or can I plug directly to serial port and comm with vehicle? Do I still need to load drivers when doing this? I tried doing this and still was unable to comm w/ vehicle. Got a comm port not config. Thanks for any help.

have you tried copying the drivers from your CD to the computer and manually loading the drivers through control panel and taking thme off teh computer?

No, not quite sure how to do that. I'm not real savy w/ my computer skills. But, if you could send some good instructions, I'd be willing to try. Thanks.

I was asking if the mpvi was required when communicating with the PCM or if it was just a 'converter' converting the signal from serial to usb. My laptop does have usb port. I tried plugging in the mpvi and the green power light comes on, but no prompt on the laptop to install driver. I've verified w/ a mouse that the usb in in working order. I tried plugging it into my desktop as well w/ no prompt. I did find the driver on the cd, but not sure how or where to load it on the hard drive.

Regarding loading the drivers try this
Connect your interface to your laptop
Post a screenshot of your USB device manager

so we can see whats going on in there.

The drivers just need to be unzipped(I usually just unzip them to the desktop so they are easy to point to when installing)

possibly a bad usb cable.if the computer doesn't see the interface,it wont ask for drivers.

I need some help with posting a screenshot. My computer skills need some work. Thanks. As far as a bad usb cable, the mpvi power light comes on, so I know that it's not all bad.

No,but it dosen't appear to change any if I unplug or plug in the mpvi. Here is one w/ it plugged up.

i had a similar problem installing mine yesterday i needed to manually install the drivers. it took me about 4 hours to figure it out. there is a thread in the help forum with a video.

Well I would have thought that with the power light on the mpvi interface coming on when I plug it up to the laptop that the usb cable was good-WRONG. Changed the usb cable and everything worked good, drivers loaded great. Just glad it was somethin simple!!!!!!
