VE when does it make a difference? 3800

Yesterday when looking at a different tuning program I saw an interesting table or feature. It had the option of setting transient fuel to 00=None 01=MAF failure mode and 02=VE based.

This got me thinking some people claim that a VE tune helps others have stated that they can set VE to 0 with no change. I would like to see if this option has any effect on when it helps or makes no difference.

What I need to for others to reply letting me know if VE makes any difference in tuning for them and what model, year, and OS id.

This will take me a while as I will need to find an uncompressed .bin file to check the status so if you have a .bin of you tune E-mail it to me.

Thanks for the help and I hope that this can shed some light on why it seems to help at times.

I am did some testing yesterday have not reviewed the data to see what changes scanner read.
I created 8 Tunes to load
Transient Fuel set to OFF with VE at 0,100,200 and tuned VE.
Transient Fuel set to ON with VE at 0,100,200 and tuned VE.

I then proceed to load each tune clear the trims then start logging and start the car allowing it to idle for 2min. (The hood was open and fans were turned on via VCM controls, all other electronics were off for the test. Intake temp was ~68 and ECT was ~135 for all starting tests.)

    Preliminary results:
    Car started on all tests.
Issue running VE at 200(max) both with/out transient enabled car would idle for ~35sec then would stumble and die I believe from to much fuel. (No big surprise since the VMC uses VE for OL and the car was not in CL yet.) The car could not restart after this happened and the tail pipe dumped a little smoke when it happened.

Next I loaded each tune after warming the car up and went for a spin.

The procedure I took when doing the test was unplug the inverter then load the tune in a school parking lot, plug inverter back in clear Fuel trims and dissable LTFT. Then I would turn out of the parking lot drive down to the light and start the scanner (That way I was sure it was in CL). I would start a roll into WOT cruse at ~58mph coast down to ~38mph then do a little city driving back to the school to start the next run the drive was about 5min long.

I did not test VE of 200 since it did not idle. Also did not get to test Transient OFF with VE at 0 but when I ran Transient ON and VE 0 the car died after I started the cruse portion of the test. The car would not restart in when rolling or after I stopped had to load a different tune on the side of the road.

If I have time later today I will review my scans and see what results it gives me.

I have not finished this yet but I have attached a ZIP that contains my scans, HPT Config file for beta HPT, Tunes, Scans and scana as .cvs, and a little excell sheet. (I forgot that I had used the beta for tuning the files I have resaved the changes with HPT version 2.22 just for "Transiant YES VE Tuned" and "Transiant NO VE Tuned" files.)

    http://patientchoicecardiology.com/c...ientVETEST.zip 4.72MB
(Patient Choice Cardiology is my place of work an I am just using it to store the ZIP.)

I did not get the best scans as WOT was not consistant on all runs BUT all runs locked at 0 Fuel Trims and O2s stayed close to 930mV. I will need to find a place I can easily enter I-75 to do some 0-75MPH testing, but not sure when I will be able to do that.

The order of the runs were as follows:
    Transiant YES VE Tuned
No KR But I need to rerun the test as I did not get into TPS quick enough.

    Transiant NO VE Tuned
Spikes of KR at +33% TPS.

    Transiant NO VE 100
Small KR spike near end of WOT LTFT went active on this scan also.

    Transiant YES VE 100
Spikes of KR at +33% TPS.

    Transiant YES VE 0
The RPMs jumped up during WOT then suddenly went back down. The car dies at frame 243.

I looked up the OS IDs that TinyTuner should have Transient Airmass Calc Mode available. (The issue with TinyTuner is it only supports editing 3800s and it has to use .bin files)

TOTAL OF 140 OS IDs should have the table available and are listed below:
(Note: I'm to lazy to set a table up to display each row so a space signifies the break.)
