scanned and dtc for crankshaft position sensor came up. replaced that and still runs like crap. rough idle, gutless and backfiring.
maf is unplugged.
can anyone help us out here?
Starting to think that maybe it has simply jumped time?

2000 Camaro Z28- stock motor. P/S LT's, TSP TD bullet style mufflers,de screen maf, LID and K&N filter. 2.73's
180,000 miles and going strong!!
2004 Silverado 2500HD- stock 6.0, drop in K&N filter, 285-75/16 sport king A/T's.
Plug the Maf back in. I always tune the Maf & leave the VE table stock on the V6 cars.

i'm not tuning this car, just want it to run correctly. the reson for unplugging the maf was to prove that it wasnt the maf that was causing the issue.
Idle at 18 degree retarded and under load jumps to 20-something ish retarded. is that right? Does this sound like the timing belt/chain has jumped a rib or two?

The early V6 cars report negative timing. Read the help files> VCM Scanner > Negative to Positive Timing.
Any codes set?
Russ Kemp
it has a secondary ve table right? or am i totally wrong on that? Thats why i unplugged it in the first place, to verify if it was/wasnt the maf sensor.
the only codes were the maf code and the crankshaft position sensor code.

97s will have negative timing where 98-03s have positive timing.
Plug the maf back in. Without it, you will likely not see any misfires recorded because many of the bins are set to not check for misfires if a maf failure occurs..
If it is a 97 and the catalytic converter has never been changed, you might want to start looking for one.. Can easily lead to a misfire dtc. Will make the car feel horrible too..
97 Grand Prix GTP (not going to bother listing mods in detail) 1 messed up 97 PCM with about 30-50% of a 2003 calibration and parts of a few others.
