4 pulse per revolution speed sensor...

Anyone tried a 4 pulse per revolution speed sensor? Finishing an install of a 5.3 into 81 gmc 1500 today. Read the warning in hpt about not setting value to low. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this before.

For anyone interested, I used the TPI parts speed sensor which generates 4 pulses per revolution(same as jags that run speed sensor). I was able to change the General VSS Pulses per mile and Rev-trans to 4.0000 without issue.

Also thought I would add that you can make the cruise control work with this speed sensor. There is a lot of misinformation out there on other forums about this. I used a 5.3 with th350 and 4 pulse per revolution speed sensor successfully with the stock LS cruise control.

I use the dakota digital sensor from summit racing, SEN-01-4160, its a 8000 pulse/mile , or 8 pulse/rev. This sensor is cheapest I have found anywhere at $39.00 from summit.

I have programmed LT1, OBD1, OBD2 and LS1, Vortec Truck all way from 1999 to 2007 classic with this speed sensor with no issues.

I usually use a value of anywhere from 3 to 3.5 pulse per drive shaft revolution to come up with something close to 8000 pulse/mile.

now, I'm using Tunercat OBD2 for this, but don't see why HP would be any different. I've only used my HP tuners for 2007+ Gen IV stuff..which I have NOT tried this sensor on one of these yet.
