Confused downshifts from 3rd to 1st/2nd

    Re: 1999 S10 4.3 (turbo) w/ 4L60E auto

I haven't done serious on-road tests to confirm, but I'm pretty
confident I know what my tranny is doing that is bothering me.

When cruising at lower speeds, maybe 30-35, I think cruising in
3rd gear. When I give it a bunch of gas, it needs to downshift.
I think what it's doing is going way down to 1st gear when it is
unnecessary, or when the need is very brief, and there ends up
being a lot of revving, shifting and occasionally maybe an abuse
mode being tripped? (Feels like the tranny disconnects briefly.)

What kind of things in the tune can I check out to try to ease
these downshifts so they're not so violent and unnecessary?

without a tune uploaded I cant say exactly...
but start by looking at any trans shift MPH/RPM/TPS tables

Attached is the latest tune that I'm running.
Other than TM removed the rest are factory.
(Specific to the transmission tables, that is.)

yeah...looks like your shift tables could use some tweaking...

the 1->2 and the 2->1 tables should have a few more mph gap...
take the 2->1 table down a few mph

you can also zero out the mph upshift tables if you want it to shift by rpm only as you climb gears
