    Viper Tuning

    Hello all.

I would like to know if the Viper (Gen1 or 2) will be supported by HPT ?

    Thanks.

Gen 1 is not likely. I'm not sure what ECM is in the Gen2.

I own a Gen3 so it will get done eventually!

Gen4 will probably be shortly after we release our dodge software for NGC3.

    Vipers used ;

    SBEC2 : 1992-1995

    JTEC : 1996-1998

    JTEC+ : 1999-2006

    VENOM : 2008-2010

Hmm, I thought the Gen4's where NGC3's. I'm not familiar with the VENOM ECU's. I'm wondering if its just a rebadged NGC3 or NGC4.

Unfortunately no, they look just like a NGC controller, and use the same connector, but the pin-out is completely different . It was developed by MZT , which is a collaboration between Motorola, Zytek , and Continental automotive systems. There was an article in Viper quarterly a year or two ago that talked about, in some detail, the development of the VENOM and the GEN4 engine. According to the article, it was the first time in Chrysler Corporate history that they developed both engine and engine control system at the same time. It was done because neither the previous engine or engine controller (JTEC) could meet emission requirements. If I dig around, I might be able to find the issue that had the article if you are interested.

Well that doesn't sound good for Gen4's.

I won't know more until we get some in house.

Should the scanner work on Gen 3's. Tried hooking up with one lap top and it goes BLUE! The other lap top never connects 2.22 version. Any advice

I've had good luck scanning the GEN3's with the beta version, no blue screens. Might want to take that up with Bill.

Sounds like a driver conflict(almost all blue screens are a driver conflict issue) possibly another piece of hardware you are running is using an older FTDI driver.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Yes, works great, just don't log any more pids than you need to do the histogram so you get usable frame rates.

Do JTEC+ ECMs use a different protocol than the JTEC? Because I couldn't scan any vehicle with JTEC so far.

The later JTEC+ ecus switched from ISO 9141 (sharing pin 7 with SCI in the OBD2 connector) to PCI or better known as J1850 VPW (running and terminating into a previously unused pin 2 in the OBD2 connector.) It varies depending on model, but if pin two is populated, I imagine it should work. I have only used it on GEN3 Vipers, but going through the different year/model OBD2 pinouts, they started wiring to pin 2 in 2001 .

    Wow! You are a walking JTEC-Library! ;-)
Thanks for the explanation. Hopfully HPT releases the new Firmware soon so we can scan the older JTEC(+) too.
