1999 Corvette has no Serial #

Okay I plugged up HPT and it read the PCM just fine. The only problem is when I go to License the vehicle so I can do some tuning, it does not display the option for a single vehicle license for 2 credits. It only shows the:

    Don't License - 0 Credits

    Year/Model - 6 Credits
    Unlimited - 30 Credits

From doing a little searching I found this.
    http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8672

I did have the PCM reflashed by the dealer. So I think I'm having the same problem as this guy, except it's still the original PCM just reflashed with no true Serial #.

What can I do to fix this? I don't want to waste 6 credits when the Corvette only needs 2.

Have someone who already has the year/model license flash you with a file that HAS a valid serial number then reread OR tech 2 should be able to fix the issue as well.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Yeah they might be able to fix it but most will charge you upwards of $100 to do so therefore it might not be worth the effort & might just be cheaper to just license the year/model license & full flash in a file that has a valid vcm id number.

Yes, as stated your best bet would then be to find a stock file with the same os as yours and do a write entire with that file to your pcm so that your pcm then has a valid vcm id number.

Sorry I'm new to all this so I have some more questions. lol

    What is the "os"?
Also you say I can tune my car when I purchase the year/model license w/o a valid vcm number. So if I can tune my car w/o the id # do I really need it?

I want to say thanks for all the quick help so far. Its great!

    operating system

yes you can tune it without a vcm id number, however if you try and apply a custom operating system and go to write it the software will ask you to license the unlimited license(30 credits) which I doubt you want to do. So to ease future issues its best to have the pcm flashed with a file that has a valid vcm id number.

Okay I posted a new thread in the Generation 3 Engine tuning section asking for a factory os for my car. Hope that's what ur saying to do.

All I plan to do right now before I get a true Dyno tune is to get rid of the Torque Management, adjust the fans, shift points, and maybe some timing adjustments. Will that require a custom operating system? Im wanting to go ahead and adjust those few things but am willing to wait if I need a valid id #.

Nothing you do will REQUIRE a custom operating system, however there are many advantages to our custom operating systems over teh stocker.
