Hello everyone,
I'm considering moving my tuning business from Az to the west L.A/Venice part of Ca. I heard from a friend in the automotive business that Cali has cracked down on PCM tuning and is indeed illegal now to modify the vehicles computers. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Can I instigate a "Not CARB compliant/do not use on public roads" disclaimer and still tune the vehicles?

The only way to actually know is to contact the EPA and the state regulator on this to find out if it is true and what it allows and disallows.

Dont want to scare anyone, but it is a Federal Law. Most states just dont enforce it. California is scary to tune in...We always have someone sign something along the lines of "off road only", but dont know if it will hold up in court. Most people who want tunes on their cars are aware of this. And if they are not we try to explain it to them. Now most of my customers wont pass the visual so it is not a big deal.
