Lots of posts on here about cam tuning. I think NGK has a reasonable WB.

Idle issues could be fuel related, at least were with my TV3 after I put it in. The car was idling at a mid to high 11's range and running WOT at a mid 12, and that was after some fueling tweaks.

Haven't been on the forum in forever but know a while ago were some idle configs floating around to help with idle. Also the Airflow cracker table will help with the bucking iirc from Frost giving me some advice.

Attached is the most recent tune on my wife's TA. Only real difference from your's to her's is her's has 243 heads on it and is set up for SD tuning, which I would highly recommend if you have the time and patience to do it right.

This is still a work in progress, haven't tuned/touched the car since a few days after this tune so if something looks off, it's probably an incomplete thought!

Just go slow and easy with changes, as long as you aren't dumb with changes and keep things in check and monitor them you really can't do too much harm if any.

Sorry, don't know cams by their names. If someone can give me pretty accurate specs, I'm sure I have something close.

V2 here, bit of advise, dont bother tuning the 98 operating software. Download 2002 OE from the repository and license that file and write entire, then tune. I spent most of last summer tuning my 99 OS, primary and secondary VE sucks balls!

I also spent a lot of time trying to get the idle nailed down and stop the surging in gear at low rpm. In the scanner, adjust the timing at idle until it runs the smoothest and remember it. Retard roughly 5 degrees from that magic number in your idle spark table. Remember to match your main spark tables in the low rpm range for smooth transitions. Bump up the idle under/over tables, thats where the pcm can climb the timing up to the magic number when its stumbling. The idle and surging wont be as perfect as stock but huge difference from what I originally had.

Im not 100% sure. I thought there was something goofy with the 98 only pcm's to upgrade to a newer OS with required installing a newer pcm in the car and a mess of other thigns. You might want to do some searching.

Don't write a newer os into a 1998 pcm! You will brick it.

The only way to run a new OS in a 1998 car is a PCM swap that requires repinning the PCM connector, a new PCM, and a fuel segment swap into whatever file you're going to run. It's not to be trifled with lightly. The '98 can be tuned, it's just got a kink or two added to it versus tuning the later PCM.

I have a 98 pcm and I can say that, aside from taking a little longer to tune due to two VE tables, its not hard to tune. Just remember, tune the primary VE table using the afr error histogram, then copy and paste the even map rows line by line into the secondary VE table every time you change the primary table. Not any harder than the newer pcms, just more tedious.

You can actually 'copy with labels' the primary VE table then paste it right into the secondary table.

Make sure you 'copy with labels' though. Otherwise you end up very, very lean, scratching your head, and having a WTF? moment.

Don't ask me how I know.
