How do you figure out where what is in the code?

I am curious. How do you figure out where the tables are in the code? I doubt GM gives you the hookup, and trial and error is pretty risky on a PCM. And I doubt that there is any magical code that says "High Octane Spark Table starts here!". With what we download and upload being a 512k file, I doubt there is much wasted code. I don't want you guys to give away all your secrets...I am just curious how difficult it is to decipher that stuff.

So it is as much of a pain as I thought. Man...it makes me want to break out my book on assembly again. The other thing that concerns me...how do you fix the checksum if you manually change the code? I would assume HP Tuners won't let you push through a VCM with a bad checksum. But I haven't had a corrupt file yet, so I have no idea.

hrmm.. I know mips and IA32..

but those are pretty easy to get a grip on becuase there are 10000's of resources on them..

    cpu32 huh.. sounds "non-fun"
